Dubrovnik's Splendid Stradun

Advantages: Fascinating Walkway through Medieval Dubrovnik
Disadvantages: Can be Hard Work in July and August

situated at the top of the Stradun. Sponza Palace --------------------- This masterpece of a building was one to survive the earthquake. If you are a fan of Gothic architecture you will find the exterior quite striking as it is a combination of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Check out the Gothic windows on the first floor which are flambouyant in the extreme and don't miss the Cloisters. On the second floor you will see a somewhat tubby carving of St. Blaise as he looks down on the Stradun. This 16th century building was once home to the city's Custom House and Mint but now houses the State Archives and a Museum to the Dubrovnik Defenders. Definitely worth a visit if only to walk through the cloisters. Fransiscan Monastery ------------------------------ This without any doubt has to be the highlight of any visit to the Stradun. I ...

Partying at the Palace (ish)

Advantages: Comfortable, clean, good staff
Disadvantages: A few faults, doesnt live up to expectations

This review is about my Christmas party experience at the Strand Palace Hotel. This year, I was in charge of organising our office Christmas party, and, being based in South East London, the department tends to head to Bromley or Greenwich for a meal. But this year we decided to go all out, and go 'up west', and so I came across the Strand Palace hotel on my googlequest and we decided to go posh as well. The booking process was slightly tiresome, seeing as the particular member of staff we made our booking through was somewhat challenged in the brains department. The initial booking process was easy. We booked ourselves in for the three-course carvery meal, and then Channy and I (the office babies) were sent scuttling around collecting everybody's cash (£33 per head). All was sent in when a couple of weeks later, the girl calls me ...

Review of The Strand Palace Hotel, London

DUBROVNIK THE CITY OF FREEDOM AND BEAUTY

Advantages: everything here is advantage
Disadvantages: not too many places to go out after midnight

is circular in shape and at the same time it can serve as a water tank. The water flows from figures of 16 masked faces - "maskeroni". Small Onofrio's fountain is located on the opposite end of Stradun and it supplied water to the marketplace on Lu?a square. Orlando's Column In between the Sponza palace and the church of St. Vlaho is located Orlando's column. This tall stone column with a flagpole is decorated with a sculpture of the legendary Medieval knight Orland (Roland). Although there are some legends about how the legendary knight saved the city from the pirate attack, it is more likely that the statue was raised to honor the German emperor Sigmund who protected the city from Venetian aspirations in the 15th century. In those days, Orlando's columns were built in central European cities. Orlando's column in Dubrovnik was built ...
