Most tourists to Barbados when they hit Bridgetown tend to head to the shops and yes I'm one of them as well!
The memorial ... ...the buses, taxis etc drop off the descending hordes of people. People usually know where the memorial and fountain are in Barbados but have they ever really looked at them, the answer to that unfortunately is probably no.
To be honest there isn't much there. There is the monument with plaques that list the heros that died in the wars, and a fountain surrounded with stone dolphins. Apart from that there isnt anything else. But it is ... more

The memorial is at the heart of Bridgetown, this is where all the buses, taxis etc drop off the descending hordes of people.
But it is well looked after and you can tell that people still respect what the place represents, it doesn't seem to matter when you visit, there always seems to be fresh flowers laid out in remembrance.
I think thats what really struck me, that even after all this time, people still remember and the love the people of Barbados show for this special site, is quite inspirational.
On my last visit to Barbados we decided to take in some of the culture, and it was worth it! It's like stepping into another world; you lose the hustle and bustle of the city shopping and find out what it's actually like to live in Barbados. it kind of makes you take some time out and really appreciate that your seeing a part of Barbados that isn't really seen.
People just pass through it on the way to somewhere else!!! It really is worth just stopping…. Like the poem that says "we have no time to stop and stare" (or something like that) Take time out to see a quite truly, beautiful part of Barbados where you can start to see what it's like living there when the rat race of tourists stops, if even for a moment!
And its free, to view, what more could you ask for!!
