Having travelled to Sri Lankan with Sri Lankan Airways in October this year, I was pleasantly surprised with the on board service and the actual aircraft layout itself. I travelled on a 11 hour direct flight from Heathrow to Sri Lanka and sat on an economy seat. The seat itself was very spacious, with a seat pitch of 33" and seats had adjustable head and arm rests for extra comfort. Formation of seats was 2-4-2 and allocation of seats was pre-bookable at the time of booking. Staff on the flight were very friendly and were keen to meet my every need. All staff were in local customery dress (i.e. Sahri's) which made a nice touch to get used to the culture before arriving in the country itself. The safety demonstration was very informative and there is a channel on the in flight entertainment whereby you can actually see the plane take off and land through cameras located on the nose of the aircraft. Children are well catered for with a choice of TV channels and they also receive a teddy bear to cuddle as they are boarding the flight. I was served two meals on board, dinner and breakfast. As we boarded we were given a menu with a choice of three different meals, one been vegetarian. Generally there was one local dish (curry) and one european dish (steak, chicken etc). However, it was often the case that your first choice of meal was not available. Therefore if you have any dietary requirements, i would advise to pre-book your meal with the airline in advance so that you are not disappointed. Water and ornage juice is served frequently. Bathroom facilities are extremely clean and were better than any other airline I have flown with. They are also equipped with items such as facial washes, soap and razors etc nad are spacious. In flight entertainment is good with a good choice of films, tv programmes and radio. All languages are well catered for. Films choices are excellent with a lot of new releases that are currently showing in the cinemas. To keep children (and adults!) entertained each seat has its own 'play station' facility offering a vast range of games to pass the hours. Games include Tetris, Cross word, 4 in a row and many others. On the whole I would fully recommend Sri Lankan Airways and would fly with them again in teh future. If you are worried about a long flight, Sri LAnkan Airways makes the flight so comfortable the time really does pass quickly.
