, which is a massive site of temples. Literally hundreds of them dotted all over the landscape. Somewhere along the line we ate deep fried whole sparrows at a restaurant.
Another night at the Ritz in Rangoon and on to Nepal. Here we spent two weeks walking around the foot hills of the Himalayas, and another two weeks in Katmandu, doing nothing.
A bus journey back to India. It was now June. At this time of year in Varanasi it reaches about 40 degrees. The humidity was unbelievable. The only way to sleep was to shower fully clothed and then go to bed. I went on to Delhi and booked my flight home, leaving me about 2 weeks to kill. So i went up to Kashmir (a perilous bus journey into the mountains) and stayed on a houseboat in Srinagar. Tourism was not doing well at the time. I imagine it's even worse now.
