A church in its antiquity

Advantages: Located within ancient busy street and free to visit or take pictures
Disadvantages: few vendors outside the church

The Catholic church is located in Intramuros, Manila where one has to pass by the Spanish-built bricked road before entering its parking area. Inside the church, one can see and feel the antiquity of its artistic designs and paintings. Sitting in its solemnity, one could easily notice an antiquely made terrace-like mezzanine which is round and built just beside a post facing the audience or churchgoers. This was where the priest or "friar" stood before the believers to preach. This church is also one of popular choices of many Filipina brides due to its long aisle, where brides walks down donning their signatured gowns. Lightings were in chandeliers accompanied by sun's rays coming in from translucent side window panes. More so, other tourists ride in 'Calesa', a horse-driven cart to go around intramuros before ending up in this ...

St Brides the Wedding Cake Church

Advantages: free, interesting crypt, peaceful
Disadvantages: not so many memorials to look at

Have you ever wondered how the tiered wedding cake came about? Look no further than the distinctive spire of St Brides just off Fleet Street. An 18th century baker William rich used the three tired spire as inspiration in a range of wedding cakes and it has became the standard ever since. However there is so much more to this delightful little church which I often visit to get away from it all. Saint Bride's has a long and interesting history. Named after Saint Bridget, a 5th century Irish saint who turned well water into beer (a nice party trick me thinks and always a welcome guest) there has been at least been seven church buildings on the site since Saxon times. Being on Fleet Street it is known as the Journalist's church and it is associated with a number of literary figures such as Boswell, Dryden, Lovelace, the diarist Evelyn ...

Review of St Bride's Church

Another church called St Mary's

Advantages: Lots of history, free to visit
Disadvantages: None for me

. It lies about 5 miles to the south of the city centre with a rich history that its residents are fiercely proud of, in fact many of the locals do not accept that it is a part of Sheffield and refuse to add the city name to their address. Dating from either the latter part of the 12th century or the early 13th century this is one of the oldest churches in the city. It stands on the top of a hill and its tall steeple can be seen from many miles around. Of the original church only the lower part of the tower and part of the chancel are original as there have been several renovations over the centuries and the church has been struck by lightening twice. The first written record of St Mary's Church at Handsworth dates from 1225 when Maud de Lovetot donated a sum of money for a chapel to built in memory of her husband Gerald de Furnival ...
