Advantages: Antiquity, Architecture, Free Entry, Guides, History. Disadvantages: None Found
It was one of those rare days that we "happened upon" StAlbans and it's Cathedral. Having half a day to kill whilst the car was being serviced in Chiswick, West London, although our loan car, being electrically assisted, was, for now at least, exempt from the Central London Congestion Charge, we made the positive decision to leave "The Smoke" and search out somewhere a touch less claustrophobic.
THE ROMAN "CITY" OF STALBANS
Around twenty miles to the north of London is the delightful old town of StAlbans, many years ago I had enjoyed a day out here, Mrs R in her seven years in England had never had the pleasure - but was not, for whatever reason over-excited at the prospect! Asking me 'what was there to see', my first and only real answer was the Cathedral. However, having had a very early start that morning, my thoughts ...

I know, I know, Blackpool is perceived as fish'n'chips, bucket and spades, amusement arcades, B&B's. What about something different?
Choice Hotels in Blackpool run 3 hotels - The Claremont (near the North Pier), the Talk of The North (near South Pier) and the Cliffs Hotel (North Promenade just up from Gynn Square).
My family and I have stayed at the Cliffs Hotel on 6 occasions, ranging from weekend breaks to full weeks. Why? The hotel is large and well appointed - it has a 1920's feel about the facade and interior and is very clean and spacios. There are 5 bars and a large resturant. The food is excellent with a very good selection - the staff are very helpful and friendly.
There is a well appointed leisure club - free to residents. It has a pool, jacuzzi, small but very good gym, sauna, sunbeds and a leisure club bar. It ...
Advantages: Late bar and all you can eat food Disadvantages: Too far to the town
My friends and I decided to have a weekend away because it was one of their birthdays. We booked for a two-night weekend break at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool through National Coach Holidays on 19 November 2004. The brochure described the break as being ?All inclusive? and we looked forward to fact that we would be able to drink copious amounts of alcohol for free (and why not!).
We paid £89.00 for two night?s dinner, bed and breakfast with drinks also included from 7.30pm ? 10.30pm in one of the three bars in the hotel.
When we arrived at 1.30pm we were met in the lobby with a poster telling us that we were unable to check in until 3.30pm, this was our first mishap. The décor in the lobby was okay and the hotel on the surface seemed rather nice. We made our way to the bar (as you do), to kill a couple of hours ...
