Just got back from St Anton (New Year 2006 - 07) and what a great place to visit.
Skiing: Runs are generally for the intermediate and expert skier although there are beginners runs in a few places and a very good ski school. Your electronic lift pass covers all of St Anton plus the nearby resorts of St Christoph, Lech and Zurs. To get to Lech and Zurs you can either get the bus from St Anton or ski to St Christoph and get it from there. If you have never skied a red or a black, this is the resort to 'give it a go' as there are several 'gentler' hard runs worthy of a try.
Resort: I stayed in Nesserein which is at the end of St Anton High St and a little quieter. It is a 3 minute walk from a gondola lift and only a 10 minute walk from the main shopping area (which is mosly pedestrianised). Loads of bars and restaurants. Maximillians is excellent and for a traditional fondue go to The Train restaurant. The best pizza we found was the mountain restaurant at the top of the blue No 8 run. The Krazy Kangaroo is probably the liveliest bar around and can be found near the end of the red No. 21 run. For the non-skiers there is swimming, jacuzzis and curling, amongst other things.
Travel: Loads of choice here. You can fly to within a little over an hour; or get a Eurostar to Paris, express train to Zurich and another from Zurich to St Anton. Or you can drive like I did. Calais to St Anton is about 10 hours.
