The Towers Hotel, Ilfracombe

Advantages: Great views, lovely (and very clean) building, excellent hosts, close to town centre
Disadvantages: None

The North Devon coast is, for me, one of the most fantastic places in the UK. There are lots of activities to do in the area including surfing, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, scuba diving, wildlife-watching, fishing, and exploring. My wife and I have just enjoyed a stay at the Towers Hotel in Ilfracombe, which is an ideal location for visiting north Devon. The hotel is a spectacular Victorian-style building with the slightly-over-the-top architecture which could only work in a building of this era. The interior is kept in-style with the overall building and is exceptionally clean and tidy. Even the Victorian features such as the high ceilings, covings and high skirting boards were in clean, good condition which must take a lot of work by the owners. There is ample car-parking for all guests, and also a small bar and lounge area ...

A review of the Arlington hotel in Ilfracombe

Advantages: none, apart from politeness of the staff
Disadvantages: I cannot really comment on specific criteria as I have not stayed there

Arlington Hotel, Ilfracombe Devon. I am afraid I have had quite a poor experience dealing with this hotel. Booked a room with a sea view months in advance with an online booking agent. Received confirmation and map through the post pretty quickly from the hotel. On day of arrival found that hotel car park was full and could only see double yellow lines on narrow adjacent roads, there was no sign on the first car park to indicate that the hotel had an overflow car park which was also almost full except for two spaces with tight access (had to go into hotel reception to be told about the second car park). Parked the car and went to book in, only to find out that they had made an error, had been put in a room with no sea view. The receptionist was polite and said the hotel would allow our dog to stay for free, but obviously ...

Review of Arlington Hotel, Ilfracombe

An excellent hotel in the heart of Ilfracombe

Advantages: close to town centre and shops, ample parking for guests, fridges in rooms, beautiful landscaped gardens, exceptionally friendly staff
Disadvantages: evening meals a little on the expenside side and have to be booked in advance

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now, on both occasions as a stopping off point en route to Lundy, a small island just across the Bristol Channel. The hotel is impressively run by Hilary and her husband Robin, with a super friendly and efficient receptionist named Helen. Rooms are comfortable and well furnished with fridges and everything that you need for your comfort and convenience. The hotel itself is situated just outisde the town centre, almost opposite the long stay car park, which provides a short cut into town along the harbour front. They offer ample parking, and a particularly useful Lundy package for those visiting the island, whereby if you stay for a night either before or after your trip to the island, they will pay for a taxi down to the harbour and let you leave your car free of charge for the duration ...
