St David's Bay Hotel in Cardiff Bay is in a glorious position out on a peninsula in the bay - one side of the hotel faces the bay and the other towards Cardiff itself.
We drove to the hotel and were not disappointed by our first impression of the setting, and having parked the car, we made our way into the hotel. The reception area is amazing - having an atrium to the top of the hotel. We were warmly welcomed and quickly registered, with our bags then being taken to our room. The double room was very clean and well appointed, although smaller than I had expected. The eye-catching point of the room was the full-length window overlooking the bay, with its own private balcony - stunning views. There was a trouser press, safe, internet access, satellite TV and a minibar. The bathroom was well-stocked with all those mini goodies which we love, together with bathrobe and slippers, although, again, was quite small.
We decided not to eat in the hotel restaurant, but walked to the parade of shops, bars and restaurants that make up the bustling harbour front. We were certainly spoilt for choice! If you decide to go into the centre of Cardiff it is quite a long walk, so you would be advised to take a taxi.Back in the hotel we made our way to the very comfortable bar, and enjoyed good service, as well as being seranaded by their pianist. Drinks were not cheap, but were in line with the good attentive service we received.
The next morning we made use of the fantastic facilities in the Marine Spa. Children are allowed, but within limited time frames, so it caters for everyone. The pool was lovely, with windows on all sides to take advantage of the fabulous views over the bay. All the facilities you could wish for with hydrotherapy pools and a gym are there for guests to make use of. You could also book in for a treatment and be thoroughly spoilt.Breakfast was served in their restaurant, again with views across the bay, and catered for every taste from continental to full English to waffles and pancakes!
I would definitely stay there again.
