Advantages: SERVE QUICKLY AND DELICIOUS FOOD Disadvantages: NONE
My family and I were on holiday in London recently and on the Saturday evening we were booked to see a show that started at 7.30pm so we needed to find somewhere to eat in the West End where we could be in and out fairly quickly.
We stumbled upon La Tasca in StMartinsLane in The West End and having previously visited our local La Tasca in Plymouth a couple of times decided to eat there. It did look small from the outside so peeped in first to see how big it was and if it was really busy.
Appearances are deceptive and inside it really stretched back a very long way and it was busy but not heaving. The tables were laid out really well and nobody seemed to encroaching on anybody elses space. The atmosphere was calm, relaxed and candlelit and bearing in mind it was about 6pm and still light outside, we felt away from the hustle ...
Advantages: Oh so trendy, great for people watching Disadvantages: A little on the costly side!
Imagine, if you will, a bare white room. Add a Scandinavian-style double bed with crisp white linen, a tall white unit set at a jaunty angle in the middle of the floor, a glass desk which lights up and a white plastic stool. Odds on, the room you are imagining has a door. Shut it and paint it white so that there is no clue that there is a door there. Welcome to your bedroom at the StMartin's Lane hotel.
The StMartin's Lane hotel is more than a hotel, it's an experience. Part of the Morgans group of hotels it is known for its quirky nature which is aided and abetted by Phillipe Starck's rather unique designs
Situated in the heart of London, within spitting distance of the National Gallery, Leicester Square and Covent Garden, you could be forgiven for walking straight past the rather underwhelming entrance. The hotel exterior hides ...
Advantages: It's just wonderful Disadvantages: You have to find it first...
Number 45 StMartinsLane is anything but an ostentatious building. Looking like an old 1960?s cinema you would be forgiven for walking past without even realising it is a hotel. Oh, and yeah, there?s nothing to SAY it is a hotel either. There?s no sign, there?s no writing in the window, there?s just a revolving door?
So having walked up and down the Theatreland street several times in the pouring rain, bumping my stewardess?s luggage trolley on all the kerbs I was less than impressed with this hotel before I had even walked through the door!
Yet hang on, StMartinsLane Hotel is far from inexpensive: with single rooms starting from £160 and reaching the heady heights of £340 for a night: surely this Ian Schrager hotel would be in the same stratosphere as the famous Delano in Miami, the Hudson in New York and the beautiful Clift ...
