...Truro Cathedral is situated in the City of Truro, found in the far south west of the British Isles, within the county of Cornwall. It is a Celtic County, with a strong Christian following for the last sixteen hundred years. Many of the populated areas of this county are named after Cornish Saints. Truro Cathedral is not ancient. The Cathedral exists to proclaim the glory of God through its presence and worship. StMary’s Aisle is however, part of the twelfth century medieval parish church and has been the Seat of the Bishop of Truro since 1877. Truro Cathedral is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
With around half a million visitors in 1998, Truro Cathedral is the eighth most visited cathedral in Britain. The Cathedral is open daily. There are three services daily consisting of Morning Prayer, the Holy Communion and Evensong...

History
The site of the Cathedral has been an important one for more than a thousand years. The present cathedral dedicated to StMary, St George and St Denys was built in 1421 to serve a growing mediaeval town. However this was not the first church on the site. It is speculated that there had been two other churches the first one dating back to 800AD. The Angel Stone displayed in the cathedral might have come from this church however there is little evidence to prove this. The Doomsday Book mentions a parish church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin which probably would have been on the same site as the present cathedral. Like most churches the collegiate church has been adapted, extended and rebuilt due to changes such as the reformation, and damage caused by events such as storms in 1792...

A few cathedrals chronically on show”
The cathedral is still a place of worship. Services for Morning Prayer and communion take place daily as well as the morning and evening Sunday Services. However, the majority of visitors, like me, are there for secular purposes. The Cathedral is fascinating for the history alone. There has been a church present on the site where Chester Cathedral now stands since 907 and even possibly earlier although this has not been proven.
Chester Cathedral is a culmination of three churches. The original Church was dedicated to St Werburgh, a Mercian princess, who took her vows eventually becoming an abbess. A number of miracles were accredited to her both during her lifetime and after her death. She was buried in Staffordshire and her relics moved to the walled city of Chester after the Danish...
