A SUITABLE RESTING PLACE FOR St ALBAN

Advantages: Antiquity, Architecture, Free Entry, Guides, History.
Disadvantages: None Found

replaced by pillars of the Decorated style, the work being completed in 1345. THE DESTRUCTION OF THE ABBEY Notable on the north side pillars are the thirteenth century wall paintings, showing Jesus on the cross and scenes with Mary, his mother. Bearing in mind their sheer antiquity, these have survived the ravages of time surprisingly well. What have not, are the paintings depicting the saints on the south facing pillars. These were quite literally "de-faced" during the reformation, Sir Richard Lee, a military engineer, had been employed to destroy the monastic buildings and much of the iconic art within the abbey church itself. St Albans had been surrendered to the crown (Henry VIII) on 5th December 1539, it was, erroneously, thought that the abbey church would become an Anglican Cathedral, as had already happened at Peterborough. Ancient St Albans

Advantages: A wealth of history, in a compact area.
Disadvantages: Drunken louts on a Friday night

Having grown up in this ancient city, it's easy to forget that it's also a place with several historic tourist lures. Layers of it's history are visible, from Roman Verulanium's amphitheatre, through the Medieval Abbey and Clocktower, the two battle grounds of the Wars of the Roses, through to the contemporary Gardens of the Rose (show place for the National Rose Society). Perhaps when I next go home I will re-visit some of these sites and write more detailed ops of them, but as a whole St Albans has much to recommend it to travellers and day-trippers from London, so long as they are interested in history.. Located about 25 minutes by train North of London, and on the way to London Luton airport, it's an easy day trip from London. The return fare is approximately £10 on Thameslink, depending on time of day, and if you have any ...

St Jude - The Miraculous Saint

Advantages: Better than its rivals
Disadvantages: Live sound better than its album sound

The Courteeners are a four piece indie band hailing from Manchester. They formed in 2006 but have known each other since they were ten. Liam Fray (lead vocals/ guitar) Michael Campbell (drums/ backing vocals) Daniel Conan Moores (guitar) Mark Cuppello (bass) The Courteeners were signed up to Polydor in 2007. The band's first album 'St Jude' under the Polydor banner was released on the 4th April 2008. Three songs have been released from this album 'What took you So Long - chart position 20' 'Not Nineteen Forever 19' and 'Now You Didn't, no You Don't 35'. The Courteeners have been hyped up for a while now, thanks to a burdgeoning fan base in home city Manchester which has been spreading countrywide. The N.M.E have helped spread the word and the band have been selling out shows months in advance for sometime now, including ...
