St Patricks Day, 2000. The fun was never ending. Do go if you get the chance. We went and stayed in Temple Bar, flew with Ryan Air for £25 + Taxes and had a ball. St Paddy's Day is the time to visit as everyone is in a carnival mood. There are parades and fireworks and smiles on the faces everywhere. The bars and pubs serve great Guinness - we found O'Neills to be the best - just around the corner from Molly Malone's Statue, near the Tourist Information ...

Advantages: A beautiful city with lots to see and do Disadvantages: I didn't find any
This was my first visit to Ireland and won't be my last. We had a 4 day coach tour from the North East of England with a ferry crossing from Holyhead. The coach journey was much too long although I did enjoy the ferry crossing - next time I'll go by plane.
What can I say about Dublin - the people were so friendly & helpful. The whole weekend had a carnival feel but I suspect they are just as friendly all the year round. The pubs were very full in ... ...but the food was very good & we tried a few different venues over the weekend.
We stayed in a hotel out of the city centre so it was quite a trip into town but the accomodation was so good it was worth it. The parade itself was very impressive but the view was quite restricted by the crowds along the streets. More floats displaying above eye level would have been better for everyone to see.
We also had some coach trips around Dublin, a stud farm ...

We didn't buy any linen or crystal for myself because I have a lot.
~O ST. PATRICK'S DAY O~
We weren’t there on March 17th so why am I telling you about it? Our Tour Guide told us that, ’’ St. Patrick was of ’Celt’ origin and was captured by an Irish ’marauder’, (Pirate), and sold as a slave to a chieftain of an area that is now in the county of Antrim.
He became Catholic at this time. A legend says that an Angel appeared to him while he was tending his master’s sheep and told him to run away as G-D would protect him. He became an apostle and traveled through
the country and converted many of the Irish people to Christianity by telling them the shamrock represented the Holy Trinity. He died on March 17th sometime in the mid 400’s."
I hope you enjoyed learning about him.

Advantages: Live music, central location, good service, good atmosphere Disadvantages: no food served
...I wouldn’t usually consider making an extra special effort to go to an Irish pub when away for a few days – there are so many now that their ubiquity has also proven their downfall - I try to avoid if I can, although that is not always possible of course! However, a business trip to Helsinki and StPatrick’sDay overlapping and the temptation of perhaps getting some Irish stew lead me and another fellow conference delegate to head into Molly Malone's - having stopped at one of the Mr. Pickwick's chain pubs to escape the icy wind in Helsinki.
Location:
The pub is located on Kaisaniemenkatu – about 5 minutes walk from the main train station - and not far from the Kaisaniemi metro station - in other words bang smack in the centre of Helsinki, being also only 2-3 minutes walk from the Esplanaden and 5 minutes walk from Mannerheimintie...

Advantages: Cheap and centrally located. Disadvantages: Noisy in front bedrooms.
...There were meant to be four of us going to Dublin for StPatricksDay 2000 but in the end only three of us went.
We booked Oliver St John Gogarty's via the internet - not a clever thing to do as they don't seem to get the internet bookings well! We discovered that the rooms we had assigned to us had a Bunk Bed which was a small double on the bottom and a single on top. We decided to all stay in the same room which was fortunate for an American couple as they'd booked via the internet and Reception hadn't got their booking so they had our spare room!
On the whole, if you have a room at the front of the building - it is too noisy to sleep. If you have a room at the rear it is great. All the rooms we saw were ensuite which was nice, despite the fact that the shower in ours wasn't great.
The receptionist got confused with our...

Joe Satriani is considered by many as one of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived. He manages to combine technical brilliance with melody to produce some excellent and powerful songs. He plays a good rock song too.
