Advantages: Lots of history, beautiful setting Disadvantages: Not everyone's ideal place to visit
the main road into the village.
At the centre of the village is StPeter's Church, which dominates the village. The entrance to this is best accessed via Japp Lane and the spire of this Church can be seen from many miles away.
This Church was built in 1870 and was originally created as a place of worship for the Duke of Devonshire, his family and his staff. Today the current Duke and Duchess still use this Church as their regular place of worship and they can often be found here during Sunday service.
For such a relatively modern Church this is quite a grand affair. It has an architectural style that predates its true origin by a couple of centuries and there are wonderful stained glass windows and lots of fancy gold decorations on both the inside and the outside of the Church. This is a true demonstration of the amount of wealth that ...
Advantages: Lovely refreshing ale Disadvantages: None evident, if you discount the Stormtroopers in Sainsbury's

Why so negative? Because I?ve recently been caught out by a beer which looked as though it had all the right credentials, but turned out to be pretty rank.
Anyway, I bought what they had, and backed it up with a few old faithfuls. I ...
Advantages: Lovely Building, Lots Of History Disadvantages: Often Closed
The Parish Church of StPeter can be found in the small, picturesque town of Hope in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Visitors, who drive through Hope on their way to Castleton 3 Kilometres further down the road, often overlook this Village. However, whilst it is true that Castleton may have more to offer for the tourist, Hope is a charming little place and should not be dismissed.
Hope?s Church stands on a small grassy mound in the centre of the Village and dominates the area. We know that there was a Saxon Church that stood on this same spot from the 8th century AD and reference to this is made in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The present Church however dates largely from the 14th century, although there are a few of its early Norman features that have been preserved, including the Font.
In addition to being ...
