The Writer, The President, Al Capone & and me

Advantages: Beautiful and clean beach, lots to do snd see
Disadvantages: None

...trips through the USA and St. Petersburg remained the same.
I returned several times since and always managed to add these few last days in St. Pete, as it is called by the locals.

Where exactly is St Petersburg ?

St.Pete is about 15 miles south east of Tampa, located on a peninsula in between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay.
The nearest international airport is the Tampa International, from which ...
...the highway 276 over Howard Frankland Bridge.

Some historical background

Since around 900 AD the tribe of the Tocobago Indians lived in the area of Tampa Bay.
The Tocobago are known to have settled usually near water and their main source for food were fish and shellfish, nuts and berries, but they were also cultivating corn. As corn doesn't naturally occur in this region, it is assumed that they traded ... more

Paradise point

Advantages: beautiful weather and a great place for any families
Disadvantages: none what-so-ever

I can't believe I'm the first person to write a review on St.Pete! Well it's situated in Florida, U.S.A and reaches temperatures around 90 degrees. It is about a 30 minute drive away from the famous tourist destination Busch Gardens. Busch Gardens is well known for the world's best rollercoasters and wildlife. St.Pete is a relatively large place with many places to visit, such as the local mall. Here there are shops such as the Nike store, Tommy ...
...shopping at reasonable prices, or alternatively eat at many of the fast food places around and believe me it really is fast food! The resort my family and I stayed at, "Pass-a-Grille" was extremely pleasant, situated on the beautiful sandy beach of St.Pete. Although the name of the resort may put people into a confused state of mind, the appartments and scenery were beautiful. The great thing was you could sit on your balcony and eat your dinner ...

Do I look like a lobster wearing a bikini?!

Advantages: A lovely tan and the holiday of your lifetime!
Disadvantages: You're tryin' to tell me I've gotta right something bad about the place I wanna live? NEVAAAR!!

I first went to Florida in February 2003 when I was 12, We stayed in Orlando for a week, then drove to St Petersburg down on the Gulf Coast and stayed there for a week. Of course I loved Orlando because of the shops, theme parks and the hype but The Gulf Coast was definately the favourite part of my holiday, somewhere you could just chill out and not worry about anything, you know just relax. But after the 2 weeks we had there the holiday was sadly ...
...the plane to Florida again to do a week on Orlando and drive down to The Gulf Coast for a week, Once again we went shopping pretty much everyday, but, as much as I loved the shopping, I was glad to walk my aching feet along the beach. On Christmas Day when we arrived in St Petes I immediately went to the beach, being as it was literally 2 minutes (I Counted) away from our hotel I didn't see why not, I just walked along the deserted beach all by myself ...

Best Holiday Ever

Advantages: Gorgeous weather gorgeous place
Disadvantages: We went at the time a Hurricane was flying down mexico & was a tad wet!

My first time to USA, we stayed for 3 weeks. The first 2 weeks were spent going round Disney World and Universal Studios. Which was absolutely amazing. If you ever want to go to Orlando and want a 2 centre stay including visiting Disney World and Universal, then I would definitly recommend going for 3 weeks. You need 2 weeks just going round ALL the parks. Each day we did a park a day. That is on the first day we went to Animal Kingdom Disney World, ...
...and Busch gardens, in the first 2 weeks. All travel in the first week was by bus, though it was unfortunate that we had to pay (rather a lot!!!) every time we went to Disney World. The Bus to Universal was free, and we only used it twice!!! You can get around by car, unless your an extremely confident driver, or are used to driving in different countries then I wouldnt recommend it. It was bad enough trying to cross 8 lanes of traffic on foot!!!!!! ...

St Petersburg

Advantages: CHEAP!! - really good value for money - brilliant public transport
Disadvantages: a fair bit of red tape in repect of sorting ones own trip there!!

of the romanovs. My first day was very hard, it was almost like your first day at school. In fact it was my first day at school - The Benedict International School Russia. The weather was cold to say the least. the cold air was biting at my nose but nothing could dampen the splendour of this fantastic city. geographically St Petersburg is situated at the extreme east of the gulf of finland and is a series of islands not unlike Venice - in fact many tourists refer to it as the venice of the north. The majority of buildings in the city centre are very grand and each and every one has its own secrets. the river was frozen solid all it appeared good for was the odd ice hole fisher or as was being demonstrated by a bunch of soilders close to a bridge by the wonderful peters and pauls fortress, a game of football. I hope they dont fall in i though then ...

Review of St Petersburg (Russia)

Great Petersburg

Advantages: A wonderful, beautiful city with a rich history
Disadvantages: None

Introduction Stepping off the train from Moscow (and not without some relief in having finally arrived) into St Petersburg the change in atmosphere hit us as quickly as the icy Baltic breeze. Visited in succession it is hard to believe that these cities, the two largest in Russia, are even in the same country, let alone only 5 hours apart by train. St Petersburg, dubbed the Venice of the North thanks to its network of canals, has experienced a turbulent history. Foundered by Peter the Great in 1703 to provide access to the Baltic, St Petersburg was raised from the inhospitable Neva marshland. The strongest legacy of the city's 300 year history is the magnificence bequeathed to the city by the Russian Tsars. In the 20th century St Petersburg has endured more mixed fortunes. Renamed Petrograd in 1914 it was the scene of the 1917 ...

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

Advantages: City of such beauty
Disadvantages: Locals tend not to be overly friendly

I took Paul to St Petersburg, Russia in November 2003. It was his birthday/Christmas present. It had been a destination we both always fancied, and whilst looking through the Sunday Telegraph travel section, we saw a tour company advertising trips. After looking into that deal and then independent travel, we decided to go it alone!! So we booked our flights out of Heathrow, direct to Pulkovo airport with BA. Traveling from Belfast meant connections but we are well used to that now! Another web search along with the aid of a guide book (TIME OUT ST PETERSBURG) found us our hotel – a reasonably priced local hotel Pulkovoskaya. Also required for trips to Russia are a visa – we had to send our passports along with forms and photos off to the Russian embassy in Edinburgh – something l was not too happy about ...
