I first went to Florida in February 2003 when I was 12, We stayed in Orlando for a week, then drove to St Petersburg down on the Gulf Coast and stayed there for a week. Of course I loved Orlando because of the shops, theme parks and the hype but The Gulf Coast was definately the favourite part of my holiday, somewhere you could just chill out and not worry about anything, you know just relax. But after the 2 weeks we had there the holiday was sadly over :( 10 months later we were back on the plane to Florida again to do a week on Orlando and drive down to The Gulf Coast for a week, Once again we went shopping pretty much everyday, but, as much as I loved the shopping, I was glad to walk my aching feet along the beach. On Christmas Day when we arrived in St Petes I immediately went to the beach, being as it was literally 2 minutes (I Counted) away from our hotel I didn't see why not, I just walked along the deserted beach all by myself for 4 hours!! I sort of felt as if I belonged there, you know what I mean. I kept hassling Mum all holiday if we could move over to St Petes, but everytime she said 'no' it broke my heart (I'm sobbing as I'm writing this now) I'll never forget the day we went to Sarasota I just couldn't take it anymore, I just broke down and cried!! Anyway enough of me blubbing, you wanna know what's in St Petes Well, St Petersburg is about 100 or so miles away from Orlando, I think it took us an hour and a half to get there. Although it's not as busy as Orlando, there are still shops but are mainly lovely little gift shops that you take your Mum in, and she comes back with an empty purse after buying gifts for all the family!! You can't not got to Johns Pass, It's a boardwalk with the bay one side and shops the other, it has lots of lovely little gift shops on it and more often than not you'll see dolphins swimming in the bay, it's pretty spectacular. On the boardwalk they also have dolphin watch cruises where you sail around Boca Ciega Bay where all the beautiful houses are (which upsets me even more) and you'll also see the pool house where Cocoon was filmed (when they store the eggs in the swimming pool) I must bring my review to an end 'cause it's just upsetting me too much, (although I'm never normally emotional) I'll write another one another day. I'll just say that if you do want to go on holiday to Floirida "Just Do It, You Won't Regret It" Smellysian XX

my overwhelming memory of this place was being pooped on by a seagull on the beach and having a teenage tantrum, much to the amusement of my family... ten years later they still manage to laugh about st petersburg at every opportunity... m xx

Advantages: CHEAP!! - really good value for money - brilliant public transport Disadvantages: a fair bit of red tape in repect of sorting ones own trip there!!
