During my travels around Australia i spent a month in Sydney (please see my other reviews about Sydney) and was amazed by the diversity of the attractions available. Star City Casino is one of the most extravagant, luxurious and star quality attractions that Sydney has to offer, whether you are a backpacker, on a hen or stag night or there on an adult family holiday.
The outside of the building is utterly impressive adorned with lights (the firework name "Star City" formation was fantastic), moving escalators, cascading waterfalls and water features, extensive plants and trees and a stream of limos lining up to get inside.
The building itself holds a stage theatre (when we was there they were holding the first Dusty Springfield the Musical and was set for a world tour) a range of restaurants, bars, an expensive hotel with a range of rooms available, the casino itself and plenty of shopping. There is also a cloak room and there is a charge for this service (unless you're a member) as backpacks are not allowed in the casino.
When entering the casino itself (after going up several flights of escalators) make sure you are presentable, there are a list of long rules about how to dress, and trainers are certainly not permitted. On the casino door are several security staff and you will see these all around the building. Under 18s are strictly not permitted, and you see people getting asked for ID, (even my partner had to produce ID and he is 24!) I found this was good however because there was no chance of goby teenagers wandering about the place.
Inside is a range of gambling to suit every taste and financial budget, from human spun roulette (they even have computer run versions), to slot machines to computerised dog and horse racing. There is a restaurant (with discounted meals if you produce a member's card) and several bars with expensive and flashy drinks. There was flashing lights, music (even a live band at one point) and they even have a huge fish tank on display which holds several reef sharks within its contents, adding to the enormous slender of the room.
The room was filled with every type of individual you could imagine and was bursting at the seams for people to lay down their chips at the tables. My partner and I found ourselves joining the membership (which is free unless you wish to become a gold member) and was given $10.00 free to play either at the machines or on the tables. My partner attempted at roulette and failed miserably....I however opted for the slot machines and won an additional $13.00 on my first go. With the membership came free machine drinks, (3 per day) ranging from hot chocolate, tea, coffee to coca cola and water and discounts on the meals. Additionally we were added into the prize draw for $1000.00 on the hour every hour. They also provided several highlights such as a free chocolate fondue foundation with marshmallows on sticks.
After an hour of spending time watching and play a range of games and tables, my partner and i wandered up to another level on the casino and found our grubby selves amongst well dressed and suited men and women playing a minimum $500.00 bet on a table. Some even ranged up to $10,000.00 per bet. We casually declined drinks (and then found out that they were free) and realised we had some how managed to pass security and had wound up in the exclusive gold members club.
Overall this experience was amazing because it was my first time in a casino. The facilities are well catered for a range of individuals, whether you want to go for the big $10,000.00 bet in the gold exclusive club or a mere $0.50 on the slot machines. It was also well staffed; all the tables and slot machines were well positioned to allow comfortable moving around the room and had a range of restaurants and bars. I would recommended to anybody (even if you don't gamble) to go see for yourself this dazzling gem of Sydney.
Advantages: Food was excellent, great city views and well-equipped gym Disadvantages: Casino a bit drab, but is being upgraded.
...August 2008) at the glittering Star City Casino Hotel, located in Pyrmont, an inner city suburb of Sydney Australia. Previous reviews of this hotel have only really described the casino area, but you can have a great time staying here even if you aren't into gambling, because there's lots of places to eat and things to see and do. Also I took a few photos at the hotel, and readers may be interested in these. Good points were as follows. Excellent ... ...about waiting.
RESTAURANTS AT STAR CITY
The hotel (five star) has a range of restaurants. I dined at the Lotus Pond Chinese restaurant and found the food excellent ( I had stirfry prawns and rice plus vegetables). It was artistically arranged on the plate. The ambience was good, and the waitress helpful. The decor in the restaurant was charmingly Oriental with a kind of an elevated dining area with a moat around it, lanterns, soft lights and helpful ...

Advantages: Looks nice, has a theatre Disadvantages: No decent machines and crowded
...be honest, I found the Star City Casino in Sydney a bit of a disappointment. We went to Vegas a couple of years ago so I was getting ready to try my luck with video blackjack (my forté or weakness - however you see it!) When we got there, the place is impressive, lots of flashy lights and water fountains etc. but the casino itself was simply filled with row upon row of the same one-armed bandit-type machines which only the asians appeared to be able ... ...times as I read the rules it made no sense. The tables were crowded and the drinks were expensive. It does have the metrolink light railway station below the ground floor which is very convenient and if you wanted to make a night of it with the theatre then perhaps it might be worth it. But I have to say, given the choice it's Vegas Baby, Vegas. ...

...HAS BEEN TAKEN.
The Star City Casino or, the Vegas Experience as it is billed, is in a suburb of Birmingham so nice and easy to get too without battling through the city centre. It within a leisure complex, which also has host of other bars and restaurants. Parking is plentiful and there is even a courtesy parking service, at a charge and a place where you can order a taxi.

The gaming floor is next with a wide range of games, blackjack, roulette, casino poker, punto banco and several other less known games and quite a few slots, and other electronic roulette machines. There is a restaurant overlooking the gaming area. There is also a show bar which has nightly shows, but there is a cost to get in here from £25-£50, depending what is on and includes ...

Advantages: Brilliant View, close to city Disadvantages: Very expensive....not worth the money
I went to Sydney a couple of months ago and thought I would splash out and stay at StarCity.....which is right in the heart of Darling Harbour in the city.
After arriving at the airport we had our first bad experience in that they make you PAY for the airport Shuttle bus...not just any shuttle bus, the actual starcity one! So they make their guests pay to get to the hotel....In my opinion, when you pay such high prices to stay somewhere nice, you would think the shuttle bus is part of the service!
So we end up renting a car, we get to the hotel only to find they CHARGE their own guests $40 per NIGHT to park at the hotel....yes the hotel that you are a guest at and have paid $300+ per NIGHT to stay at! For these prices, you would expect a really nice room, we stayed there for 4 nights so it wasn't cheap and to be honest, the room we ...

you stand in the middle and look all across the city. There is also the bridge climb, where you can walk across the curve with a guide. This is a little pricey, but well worth it ($200)
Darling Harbor: Packed full of restaurants and cafes surrounding the end of the harbor, this is one of the best places in the city to visit. There are also some good clubs (Home bar, Cargo Bar and the Watershed), which are a must visit).
StarCityCasino: Not the biggest Casino in Aus, but can be good to visit for a drink before heading out on the town. There are Cigar bars downstairs, as well as numerous bars and cafes littered throughout the complex.
Paddington Markets: Not too dissimilar to the Camden markets in London, where food, clothes and shoes are on display.

Gold Reef City is a wonderful experience combining a historically significant theme to a modern theme park. The city of Johannesburg's story begins with the discovery of Gold and for the average tourist or for the cultural enthusiast a trip down into the mines of Gold Reef City is an unforgettable experience.
Gold Reef City boasts a stunning five star hotel and casino where the spirit of Africa can be felt and enjoyed.
The theme park has rides for the young, scenic trips for the old and heart-stopping experiences for the adrenalin junkies. In the middle of the resort there is a replica town of early Johannesburg where you may be treated to live music, traditional African dances or delicious food.
