I went to Sydney a couple of months ago and thought I would splash out and stay at Star City.....which is right in the heart of Darling Harbour in the city. After arriving at the airport we had our first bad experience in that they make you PAY for the airport Shuttle bus...not just any shuttle bus, the actual star city one! So they make their guests pay to get to the hotel....In my opinion, when you pay such high prices to stay somewhere nice, you would think the shuttle bus is part of the service! So we end up renting a car, we get to the hotel only to find they CHARGE their own guests $40 per NIGHT to park at the hotel....yes the hotel that you are a guest at and have paid $300+ per NIGHT to stay at! For these prices, you would expect a really nice room, we stayed there for 4 nights so it wasn't cheap and to be honest, the room we had was no different from a Travelodge room..it was very ordinary! You soon realise that you are paying for the view and the proximity to the city. The day after our arrival we decided to use the computer in the business centre of the hotel.....once again they CHARGE you to use it. $10 for half an hour, yet if you walk out the front door and across the main road, there is an internet cafe that charges £1.50 per half hour! I have stayed in a lot of top hotels around the world with my job, and I have never had to pay to use the business centre...not even in Manhattan, NYC. The good points about the hotel is obviously the view of the city, being in walking distance to Darling Harbour and the city and having the casino right there is also quite good as there are a few bars and even a nightclub. The breakfast was also quite nice but then for $39.95 it should be! Also I couldn't fault the hotel on it's cleanliness, it was spotless. I think this hotel is way too expensive and I wouldn't really recommend it, I don't plan on staying there again any time soon.

Sounds way too pricey. In the improbable event that I ever go back to Sydney I'll make a point of avoiding it. Duncan

Just been to Sydney and got ripped off at the hotel too! Don't think I'd have minded so much had I been near Darling Harbour though, I was in an over priced Mecure on a dodgy part of George street.
