...around the zoo - the Greeks have somewhat different ideas about what constitutes reasonable conditions from the English - so if you don't want to get upset then don't go.
This is the last of my recommendations in central Athens - the others are further out and somewhat less accessible but still well worth a visit in my opinion.
6. VILLAGE PARK
This is the local multiplex and shopping complex. There are a number around the city and most locals - especially taxi drivers - could point you in the direction of the nearest one. Now if you are a pure tourist you are unlikely to want to visit a cinema but if you are there for a while and want a trip to the cinema without the fag break and ringtone demonstration that characterises most Greek cinemas this is the place to go.

...Working on ships for 9 years I have come to know Athens like a second home. What do I think? Well it depends on what your looking for. If you want to see the generous and amiable side of the Greek nature go to the islands instead, Athenians have no or little time for you, the taxi drivers are notorious for ripping you off with any number of scams (although there are moves to control this) For seeing the amazing sites of the Ancient Greeks there is no better place. The parthanon is stunning (dont go to the evening light show its boring as hell) and the street of Plaka are alive on a warm summers evening. If anything sums up the Athenian Greeks attitude its the fact that they built their Metro system right through the site of one of their main antiquities....

Advantages: Reasonable price, free drinks, easy check in, availability of stand by aircraft Disadvantages: Punctuality, poor food
...I fly from London to Athens quite regularly. Having used Easy Jet for some time it was a refreshing change to fly with BA on a scheduled service.
Check in was a breeze - no long queues or hassle about whether or not this bag is too big or the wrong shape.
On the plane the seats were comfortable, the cabin crew attentive and all the drinks free. The food was just about edible - why is it always chicken? - but we were flying economy.
On the return journey disaster struck - the aircraft was taken out of service due to technical problems. Another plane would be substituted but there would be a delay. The problem was the new plane was much smaller - not enough room for everyone. To cut down passenger numbers BA offered us this deal:
- free overnight accommodation at the 5-star airport hotel in Athens.
- £200 cash compensation per passenger...
