Here, at the side of this memorial to fallen German military leaders, the Nazi putsch of 9th November 1923 came to an end when Bavarian police fired on the marchers. Hitler succeeded in seizing political power in 1933, two years later he gave Munich the title ´Capital of the Movement´ to remind people that his political career had started here.
Throughout the tour I kept my mouth shut, if I had started arguing the guide could have pointed out that the tour wasn´t meant for someone like me. I just listened and thought my thoughts.

THE OLD CITY CENTRE: Munich's skyline is dominated by the twin-towered, onion-topped, Frauenkirche, and this Cathedral's predominance seems assured, thanks to recent state legislation that regulates & restricts the height of all surrounding buildings. The Frauenkirche is a beautifully conceived structure, boasting a Gothic nave that dates back to the 15th Century. ...As a place to visit on your European Tour, Munich is a beautiful, safe city with plenty of greenery and a relaxing atmosphere to help you regain your energy for the next big city. Being quite a small and rich city, Munich probably isn't the best place to go shopping for cheap clothes, but with lots of culture and interesting history, certainly a place to at least spend a couple of days.
Language
Speaking German - don't ask if people can speak English, just ask them (slowly and clearly) and they will answer. Ask them if they speak your tongue and they will invariably deny it! However, in Munich there are so many international companies, that most employees of the big companies (BMW, Allianz, Munich Re, Siemens) will at least have a basic level of English, if not speak it well.
