Starbucks Corporation engages in the purchase, roasting, and sale of whole bean coffees worldwide. The company offers brewed coffees, espresso beverages, cold blended beverages, various complementary food items, coffee-related accessories and equipment, a selection of premium teas, and a line of compact discs through its retail stores.
Advantages: Interesting and brand new Disadvantages: or is it really very old???
...as a plethora of shoe shops! There's a book shop that even has a small selection of English books and a small Aldi supermarket to stock up on those essential items.
Getting there?
The Platz is within walking distance of Checkpoint Charlie and is located 5-10 minutes' walk away from the Tiergarten and Brandenburg Gate. Access the Platz via the u-bahn (subway) exiting at the PotsdamerPlatz exit (green line). When visiting the PotsdamerPlatz you are also within easy walking distance of the Brandeburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the last remaining metres of the Berlin Wall as well as the opera, the German Film museum and other attractions meaning that you can stop here fro lunch and a quick wander as well as taking in some of the city's other major sights.

Advantages: Everything good about reunified Berlin Disadvantages: Some areas under construction
...PotsdamerPlatz was Germany's equivalent of Times Square or Piccadily Circus until WW2. The area was heavily bombed and any buildings that survived were demolished by the Berlin Wall which ran straight through the middle of PotsdamerPlatz.
PotsdamerPlatz was at its height in the 1920's were more than 100,000 people came through it every day. It was so busy that Europe's first traffic light was installed here to control the flow of cars in 1924. The newly revived PotsdamerPlatz has almost reached the same flow of people and traffic.
Most of the cranes are now gone and they have left two new complexes. The Sony Centre and Daimler City.Opened in 2000 and 1998 respectively. The Sony Centre contains a huge 3D IMAX cinema, a Sony store (of course) and the Berlin Film Museum. Daimler City also has an IMAX cinema as well as a huge...

The PotsdamerPlatz is the new heart of Berlin.
Around 1900 the PotsdamerPlatz was the pulse of Germany and one of the most famous places in the world. In a time where the first cars concoured the big cities, this was world wide the first place, where cars became a problem. In conclusion here was build the first traffic light in the world.
During the second world war the place was totally destroyed. After the war nothing was rebuild, becouse the area was direct at the border between East- and West-Germany.
Since 1990 ( the German reunion) architects planed a new PotsdamerPlatz. Just two years later the place became the biggest building project in Europe and the second biggest in the world.
1992 the area was a big nothing. Just in the centre of it was a big red container...

Stayed in City Pension Berlin for 2 nights in December 2005 with another two friends. Three of us booked a triple room and the shower is in the room but toilet outside. We paid Euro 53 only (this is very good value).

There are two Sofitel hotels in Berlin, and this review is for the Dorint Sofitel Schweizerhof, not the Dorint Sofitel am Gendarmenmarkt. Both are part of the Accor hotel chain.
