we went self catering last year at the end of may £101 each last minute best money spent on holiday yet,just as the season was beginning so it was very quite,which was great as perissabeach is where apart from the family holiday makers its a haven for backpackers the place though is fantastic,we drank in the local bars one of which had a pool table and only closed when the last person left,it wasnt busy but the atmosphere was great.
we hired a cheap for 2 days at a very cheap rate off a garage in town loads cheaper than through the rep driving on santorini was spectacular and you drive round the whole island in a few hours but there are lots of places to see.
santorini only gets expensive when you go to a place called IA at the north definately aimed at the us market but the views are magnificent.

Advantages: It must be the most photogenic place on the island. Disadvantages: Can be exspensive but you can visit for the day.
If you are on holiday on the island of Santorini it is likely that you will be tempted to vist the town of Ia which is famous especially for it's sunsets. Picturesque white and blue houses are built into the rock that overlooks the Caldera; this is an expanse of water formed in the past by the island volcanic activity. Cruise ships sail into the Caldera to view the attractive town,and the colured rock formations (cliffs) that have been created by the erruptions of the volcano and also to allow their passengers to vist the town. Restaurants, hotels, houses and hoilday properties are situated (perched on the cliff face) to take advantage of the view of the sunset over the Caldera.
Ia seems an exspensive place to stay for a holiday on Santorini but it is worth while taking a day trip there; it is a very photogenic place to visit. You ...

Advantages: beautiful scenary, black sand, Aegean sea, Vulcano, rich history Disadvantages: bus connections
and Ancient Thira. It didn't impress me all that much. You sholud be fine if you miss it.
- Ancient Thira: an archeological village on the top of a hill, between Kamari and Perissa. Walking on it was a nightmare!It took pretty long, it wouldn't be so bad if it was a little cooler.
- Akrotiri: It's a major archaeological site. It was closed the whole time I was there due to the renovation. I am very interested in arheology so I was a bit disappointed because of that.
- Kamari: The part of the island were my hotel was. It's a touristic place, meant for relaxing on the beach and going clubbing at night. Other places very similar to Kamari are Imerovigli, Pyrgos, Perissa.
3.) FOOD
Gyros: I liked it, but you should examine the meat before you eat it.
Greek salad: I love the olives and the feta cheese in it.
