It is set on the road that leads up to the Agios Gordios Hotel, it sounds like it may be quite a hike, but it is not too far, about 100 yards from the Bus Stop.
It is a Hotel but we only used the Taverna (Restaurant) so can not comment on the standard of accommodation. It has tables set in the Garden the majority are under cover. There is also a large wood fired oven in the garden but was not being used that night. There is a very good sized swimming pool, so would be a good option if staying elsewhere in Agios to use during the day.
The night we called in there turned out to be only one other couple having a meal, so it would be difficult to comment on the atmosphere of the place.
Looking thru the menu there was a section where they did themed nights, Greek Night with live music and dancing. Pizza night which seemed to be Eat as much as you like type night. I feel these are the nights when Steven's does most of its business, Ok if that is what you want, and after all these places Greek Nights are by far better value than any trip to one offered by your travel company.
This night we had Garlic Mushrooms and Spetsify for starters. We felt the Garlic Mushrooms were more creamed mushrooms, and the Spetsify was a little disappointing, just a few slices of sausage in a lightly spiced sauce, not as spicey or chunky as I like.
Mains Pork Chop, no problem here a very large very well cooked item, but as the case in Agios with Chips. We found nowhere in Agios that offered those lovely Green Beans cooked in oil or Potatoes Baked in the oven with lemon and Origano, usually common in most Greek places. The other main was Keftiko, again I was disappointed, this had not been cooked for Hours TOGETHER with its Potatoes and Feta and Herbs, more like a few chuncks of lamb in a casserol dish with Peas and Carrotts with melted feta.
For those who are new to Kleftoko, its cooking and serving methods were to keep the food secret so the smells would not alert the soldiers when the wives took the food to their men hiding in the hills. So it should be sealed in bags, then when the diner gets it at the table you open the bag to be assulted with those glorious aromas of herbs and feta and falling off the bone lamb.
With a caraf (half litre) of House wine, quite acceptable and a large water the cost was 35 Euros, slightly above average for Agios.
We did not return as we found better options in Agios that suit a couple better, but would not rule this place out for a Greek Night when the atmosphere would be good I am sure.
I would certainly recommend trying it for a swim and lunch during the day, as the pool was a good size, and even in the evening looked very inviting.
