Reviews of Stockholm Attractions »
Animals, craft, history, perfect day out!
Advantages: Huge variety, never the same twice, as much or as little as you like! Disadvantages: Some extra costs, queues at lunchtime, but really, very few disadvantages!
...must-see if you're in Stockholm! Skansen comprises a zoo, an exhibition of all manner of Swedish architecture, a snapshot of Swedish life, a selection of cafes and eating options, wonderful crafts and a beautiful place to walk and picnic.
~Arrival~
Skansen is one of those magical places that seems a lot larger on the inside than it is on the outside. Located on the island of Djurgården, it's easiest to get there by boat from Slussen (in turn easily ... ...park entrance.
Entrance to Skansen is free with a Stockholm card (more on that next), or around 50 SEK for children and 90 SEK for adults. Costs do vary a little depending on time of year and atttractions, and some areas can cost extra if you only buy an entrance ticket.
On entrance you're given a delightful - and very useful - foldout map in the language of your choice. If you're like me and think, I won't need that, learn from my error of losing ...

Vasa: You just have to see this ship
Advantages: Best tourist attraction in Stockholm, extremely well presented and most enjoyable Disadvantages: None I can think of
The Vasa Museum is in my opinion the must see visitor attraction in Stockholm displaying the remains of the 17th century warship the Vasa.
Background
The Vasa was launched in 1628 to be the greatest warship in the world, sadly on it's maiden voyage it keeled over and sank just off Djurgarden island where the museum is situated today. It lay at the bottom of the sea for over 330 years until it was raised in 1961 a temporary museum was opened the ... ...the ship opened to the public in 1990.
~The Museum~
Before entering the museum, take a look at the exterior, where you will see 3 large 'masts' protruding from the roof; these represent the height the masts of the Vasa would have reached. Upon entering the Museum the first thing you notice is the darkness and the damp air, this is due to the fact that the ship has to be dried out extremely slowly to avoid further damage to the structure. As your ...

Nice place
Advantages: Disadvantages:
This place you must visit. This is a small park situated in northern part of Stockholm on the Baltic sea coast opposite to the Silja Line sea terminal. This park is famous by its sculptures made by Milles - that's why the park has name "Millesgården". This garden is very beautiful in autumn, with yeallow and red leaves on the ground, fresh and a little bit cold air from the sea and great sculptures around. Some of the sculptures are very funny and ...

the marvellous museum
Advantages: a travel along ancient times. Disadvantages: No disadvantages are there, at least for the moment
It's a moral investement to visit the place. It is unfair to come to Stockholm without visiting one of its 70 museums, at least. Today, I went to Medelhavsmuseet, the Mediterranean Museum. It is a treasure-like museum which consist of many ancient historical items.

For all the family
Advantages: great for all age-groups! Disadvantages: open-air, so don't go if it's raining
Skansen was the world's first open-air museum, opened in 1891. It's situated on the lovely island of Djurgården which used to be the King's hunting grounds, a beautiful area which can be reached by the traditional trams running from the centre of Stockholm.
Skansen is quite expensive for entry but it's definately worth the price as it'll take you hours to look round! It's designed to show visitors how Swedes lived in previous times and you could ... ...However, even if you don't se round these the other parts of Skansen will definately take you the best part of a day to look round.
Skansen is situated nearby of a number of other great tourist attractions, including the funfair and the Vasamuseet which are also highly recommended! ...
