All round excellent experience!
Advantages: Wonderful, vibrant city with a lot to offer, summer or winter! Disadvantages: Very few, possibly difficult to get the most out of for a first time visit?
So far, I've visited Stockholm twice, once in the snowy depths of February, and in the exquisite summer of July. The main thing to say is, I can't wait to go back!
I'm fortunate enough to have a good friend who's lived all her life in the city, and both times I've stayed with her, in her family home around an hour from the main city centre, and in an apartment in the heart of the city, and both experiences have been wonderful. I grew up in London ... ...found myself utterly comfortable in Stockholm in moments, despite speaking barely more than a "please" and "thank you" in Swedish! I travelled via Ryanair to Stockholm Skansta, which is the equivalent, if you will, to Stansted in London, indeed, that's where the flights go from, and on arrival you need to take a coach for around 50 minutes to the main central station. This is extremely easy to do, and the return coach costs around 200SEK, which is ...

Probably, 1 of the best transport systems
Advantages: Cheap, lots of stations, mostly reliable Disadvantages: Can be hard to understand for non-swedes
...have a valid ticket before getting on the train. It is not easy for the non-Swede to realise this. If you are caught by the inspectors without a ticket, you can face a fine of 600kr.
Trams
*****
Just a few routes, a total of 35 vehicles carry 40,000 passengers per day. The most interesting is perhaps the Djurgården line, running from Norrmalmstorg to Djurgården (Vasa & Nordic museums, Skansen etc) which operates the old style trams - literally ... ...every 10-12 minutes, except in the winter months. Prices
******
Travel is acutally very cheap in Stockholm, and various discounts and passes are available. The whole Stockholm area is broken up into various zones, pretty much the same as the London Underground. The more zones you cross during your journey, the more coupons the journey will cost.
The minimum cost for any journey on the T-bana, or buses / pendeltåg is 20kr, about £1.30, however ...

Moscow State Circus 2001 - Don't miss it
Advantages: Great performances and unusual acts Disadvantages: Perhaps only the fact that Saturday performances are limited to 2 in the afternoon
The Moscow State Circus is touring Britain at the moment. My husband and I went along last night to see it. I had seen the Moscow State Circus on Ice 10 years ago in Paris and was very impressed by the acts, especially the magicians, although I was not in favour of the animal acts. This time I made sure this one was an animal free zone before I bought my ticket.
Tickets are reasonably priced from around £8 to £20. We got grandstand tickets at £16 ... ...get a decent view because the circus ring is not that big.
All of the acts were amazing and, even if you think you've seen it all before they manage to surprise you with some incredibly dangerous feats.
Out of the 6 or 7 acts on show there were 3 that were outstanding in my opinion. There was a clown who came on, in between acts, to entertain while the props were being arranged for the next performance. He was not your average clown throwing buckets ...

'Stockholm in a pint glass'
Advantages: 'Pre-parties', 'Norrlands Guld' and superb transport links. Disadvantages: High alcohol prices, weak beer and strict bouncers.
...drinking experience, rather than visiting Stockholm as a tourist! For those of you who are that way inclined, here follows my experience of Stockholm through the eyes of a pint glass.
Stockholm - A Brief Introduction…
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, and also considered to be the capital of Scandinavia. The city was built in the 13th century around Lake Mälaren, allowing the taxation of merchant vessels going in and out of the lake. It is built ... ...of the North'. Stockholm is renowned for its clean drinking water along with freedom of its waterways, whereby anyone can fish in the city centre without a licence. Over 1.3 million people live in Stockholm, which experiences winter temperatures of around -2°C and +18°C in summer. First Impressions…
I flew with Ryanair to the airport known as 'Stockholm Skavsta'. Now you might think this airport is actually in Stockholm, or only a short distance ...
