I have been in the "Rex Hotel" for a long weekend in April 2008. The area The hotel is situated in a quiet street 10-15 minutes walking from the center. In this area there are a lot of supermarkets (including one Lidl), restaurants (Italians, Chineses) and a lot of take aways. There is also a 7eleven that closes around 11.00 pm. ...nice. Not huge but with space enough to have a table, a chest of drawers and a sofa. The bathroom is quite impressive with black stone in a very design style. In the room there are available two bottles of sparkling water and a detailed dossier of the attractions of the area with a lot of useful information. You can access free of charge to internet if you have a laptop. The hotel can provide you a map of the city and there are also other leaflets ... Read review

City Backpackers is rated as one of the best hostels in Europe and I fully agree! I arrived on the ferry and walked the 2 miles from the dock, so by the time I arrived, I was exhausted. Luckily for me, the hostel was the perfect environment to just 'flop'. Downstairs, there were two common rooms, one with a huge TV, a million channels, plenty of dining tables and the comfiest sofas, and the second with free hot drinks, more tables and about 8 computers ...
...was a small shared kitchen, a laundry room with room for stored baggage (accessible to any guest, but lockers could also be hired) as well as the usual books, tourist info, maps etc. In the kitchen there was a huge tub of free pasta - a brilliant idea and not one I have seen elsewhere!
