Advantages: Wonderful, vibrant city with a lot to offer, summer or winter! Disadvantages: Very few, possibly difficult to get the most out of for a first time visit?
So far, I've visited Stockholm twice, once in the snowy depths of February, and in the exquisite summer of July. The main thing to say is, I can't wait to go back!
I'm fortunate enough to have a good friend who's lived all her life in the city, and both times I've stayed with her, in her family home around an hour from the main city centre, and in an apartment in the heart of the city, and both experiences have been wonderful. I grew up in London ... ...found myself utterly comfortable in Stockholm in moments, despite speaking barely more than a "please" and "thank you" in Swedish! I travelled via Ryanair to Stockholm Skansta, which is the equivalent, if you will, to Stansted in London, indeed, that's where the flights go from, and on arrival you need to take a coach for around 50 minutes to the main central station. This is extremely easy to do, and the return coach costs around 200SEK, which is ...

Advantages: 'Pre-parties', 'Norrlands Guld' and superb transport links. Disadvantages: High alcohol prices, weak beer and strict bouncers.
...drinking experience, rather than visiting Stockholm as a tourist! For those of you who are that way inclined, here follows my experience of Stockholm through the eyes of a pint glass.
Stockholm - A Brief Introduction…
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, and also considered to be the capital of Scandinavia. The city was built in the 13th century around Lake Mälaren, allowing the taxation of merchant vessels going in and out of the lake. It is built ... ...of the North'. Stockholm is renowned for its clean drinking water along with freedom of its waterways, whereby anyone can fish in the city centre without a licence. Over 1.3 million people live in Stockholm, which experiences winter temperatures of around -2°C and +18°C in summer. First Impressions…
I flew with Ryanair to the airport known as 'Stockholm Skavsta'. Now you might think this airport is actually in Stockholm, or only a short distance ...

Advantages: Beautiful City, easy to get around, most people speak English Disadvantages: can be rather expensive
I lived in Stockholm for 2 1/2 years, and although I am English, my family and I found living there a lot easier than other foreign countries which have been graced by us.
If you plan to go on Holiday in Stockholm, then I can say, wise choice! Its a beautiful city with a lot of culture. But there are perhaps a few useful points that would be helpful to know, from my knowledge of living there.
Firstly, take a lot of money. The currency is Swedish ... ...on the various lakes, as Stockholm is on an archipelogo, in which all the lslands are linked with beautiful bridges. Other areas to visit are Gamla Stan which means "old town". This is a truly beautiful area. Lined with old buildings and small shops with crafts and antiques. Much appreciated by the middle-aged plus generations, but that doesn't stop younger generations from also enjoying it!
There are various other shopping centres, around the centre ...

IF you are in Stockholm for shopping, you HAVE to go to NK department store. THis is the equivalent of Harrods in London. The store is packed with all the Swedish designer clothes and I found when they are on sale the brand 'Miu Miu' and 'Prada' are cheaper than in England
Also H & M the high street chain store are much bigger and cheaper in Stockholm. For cosmetics, there's Face Stockholm and if you are going to ship things back home or going with ...

Advantages: Excellent day out assured during the Swedish holiday festivals Disadvantages: Can be a bit of a disappointment if there are no special events.
...there in no small part to the Christmas market, which sells various traditional Swedish gifts and foodstuffs and is an excellent excuse to sample the Glogg, a frequently potent Swedish hot punch.
Skansen is well worth a visit at any time of year, but if visiting Stockholm during any of the festivals I would recommend attending the festivities at Skansen.
~Access~
Sweden in General is extremely disabled friendly and skansen is by and large accessible to wheelchair users with wide pathways throughout and good quality viewing areas at the zoo. However it has to be kept in mind that the majority of buildings have been transported to Skansen and were built in the 18th and 19th Century and therefore in some cases will cause certain access problems.
~Toilets~
The Swedes are not big on the provision of public toilets but toilet facilities...

Advantages: Cheap, lots of stations, mostly reliable Disadvantages: Can be hard to understand for non-swedes
...outside of Inner Stockholm, in all directions. Generally a fast reliable service, stopping at a large number of large and small stations. Electronic timetables are at most stations. Seats are not the most comfortable for long journeys, but perfectly acceptable for the shorter ones. Some of the vehicles are a bit dirty, and there are no longer litter bins provided. All vehicles are non-smoking, and have windows which can be opened. Announcements, both audible and visual tell you the next station, so you don't miss your stop. Ticket inspectors will check you have a valid ticket, or issue you with one if you haven't already purchased one. If you start your journey at certain stations however, you must ensure you have a valid ticket before getting on the train. It is not easy for the non-Swede to realise this. If you are caught by the inspectors...

Advantages: Best tourist attraction in Stockholm, extremely well presented and most enjoyable Disadvantages: None I can think of
...have looked in 1628.
In addition to the ship itself the museum contains numerous exhibitions, which they do change occasionally, but revolve around the numerous artifacts found on the ship or to life in Stockholm at the time of the building of the Vasa. These exhibitions are generally well done but pale into insignificance next to the ship itself.
~Recommendations~
I would recommend to anyone visiting the Vasa to go on a guided tour, these are conducted in various languages; English tours are available at 1230 and 1430 throughout the year and more frequently during the summer months. Likewise there is an excellent Audio-visual presentation available, this covers not only the history of the Vasa but also of Anders Franzen's quest to find the Vasa and the subsequent salvage operation, well worth seeing. This shows hourly...
