I am well travelled both with work and for fun, I love my cats and horses spending lots of time riding. Am married to a kiwi which makes it fun when we watch England vs the All Blacks at rugby!

Beer is probably one of the four things that you think of when visiting Belgium - the others being of course (chips and mayonnaise, chocolate and belgium waffles) so would a trip to Belgium be complete without visiting a brewery - I dont think so!
The brewery is centrally located and is built around a court yard. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day so had lunch in the cafe there before our tour. The food is superb - very fresh and cooked on site. Highly recommended - especially if you wash it down with a glass of reasonably priced beer €3 for a large beer.
The tour cost €5 each but lasted an hour and included a free glass of beer or a soft drink - so is really good value.
The tour departs on the half hour -all of the guides speak English but check ahead for other languages as they only happen on certain tours. Tours are available in French, German, Italian, Dutch and Japanese so something for everyone!
This tour is not for anyone who cant walk up a couple of hundred steps - some of these are very steep but we had an 80 year old on our tour who did fine - so give it a go.
The tour guide is very funny - he knows his stuff and is willing to share all sorts of details about the history of the place. They refuse to share the secret recipe for the "Blond beer" which is the local beer served in all the restaurants in Bruges. I guess that if he did it would no longer be a secret!
The views from the top of the tower are well worth the entrance fee alone!
I learnt a lot about the brewing process - including the fact that Marmite and vegemite are a waste product of the brewing process. I knew that they were yeast but did not know they came from beer - oh well they still taste good!
At the end of your tour you get to recover from climbing all those steps by sitting and having a cold beer. You get a choice of dark and light - both are excellent!
