Advantages Beautiful place to visit

Disadvantages A bit expensive

The Butterfly Farm in Stratford upon Avon is a most spectacular place to visit.
You enter the mains doors into the gift shop and pay at the counter before you enter the main butterfly farm. Prices are as follows

Adults £5.25
Seniors and Students £4.75
Children (under 3's free) £4.25
Family (2 adults & 2 children) £15.75.

Though it is cheaper for each person if the group is larger then 10.

Opening times are
Summer 10:00 am 06:00 pm
Winter 10:00 am Dusk.

Once you go through the plastic flaps you enter into what looks like a warm rainforest with tropical plants blooming and all sorts of different beautiful butterflies flying round.
There is a big pond in the middle which you can cross over by a number a bridges, and on one side the is a lovely waterfall that falls down into the pond which is so relaxing to watch and in the water you can find all sots of fish including Koi Carp of all sizes.

They have hundreds of butterflies within the farm all different colours and sizes and Iguanas, Hummingbirds if you can find them.

The can then enter the caterpillar room, here you can see the life cycle of a butterfly from cocoons to chrysalides to caterpillars, here you can see all sorts of weird and wonderful caterpillars some are completely camouflaged others may be really hairy or very spiky, you can even see the giant silk moths.

Then once you leave the caterpillar room you enter back into the rainforest to cross another bridge to find yourself at the feeding table were they leave all sorts of different fruit out so you can see the butterflies feeding including the huge Owl Butterflies. If you are lucky enough you might have a few land on you.
There are benches all around so you can just sit a watch.

Then through some more plastic doors and you enter the insect part of the tour, here you can see a huge army of leaf cutter ants, they have there main tank where they live but they have put big ropes over head and the ants scurry along from one tank to another again this is fascinating to watch.
Also in the section they have snails crabs and giant millipedes all are enclosed in glass tanks.

Then its on to the scary bit, Spiders, I much as I have a real fear of spiders I do like to watch them and as they are all safely tucked up behind glass tanks I do feel completely safe.
Here you can find the most dangerous Black Widow which really is quiet small or the huge hairy Tarantula, that gives me shivers watching them, still I can't walk away. They are larger then 200mm in size, that's big. There are also large glow in the dark scorpions, that's a site to see.

If you wish you can re-enter the tropical rainforest bit at any time and have another wonder about.
Or else when you have finish you enter back into the gift shop, where you can find gifts for all ages and some are so beautiful.
It hard to drag the kids out.
They sell all sorts of children's gifts and for adults there are t-shirts, Jewellery, DVDs and greeting cards.

Overall a really enjoyable day out for all the family, I have taken my children there on a number of occasions and the absolutely love it, mind they were a bit frightened the first time a took them because the butterflies are absolutely everywhere and some are on the large size, but now it doesn't bother them at all.

Think I would give the tout a miss, hissing cockroaches, yuk. Sounds like a great place otherwise. Jules.
