..."There's a famous seaside place called Blackpool
That's noted for fresh air and fun
And Mr. and Mrs. Ramsbottom
Went there with young Albert, their son.
They didn't think much to the ocean,
The waves they were piddlin' and small.
There were no wrecks and nobody drownded,
'Fact, nothin' to laugh at at all!"

At about the time when Stanley Holloway had music hall audiences rolling in the aisles with his monologues about the Ramsbottom family, I came to Blackpool for the first time. I was a babe in arms, brought to live in England from abroad, and stayed for several months before moving to London. I remember nothing of that sojourn.
In a review about my grandparents I have already related something of my visits to Blackpool as a boy. Suffice it here to say that I adored the place: the piers, the open-topped "toast...

Advantages: Pleasure Beach, sealife centre, cost Disadvantages: Pier amusements
...Supposedly Britain's favourite seaside resort my first and so far only visit to Blackpool was last here for my boyfriends birthday, we went for a long weekend, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it...we stayed in a cheap hotel, although it was cheap it was simple and clean, just right for getting your head down...
The Pleasure Beach was better than I expected with a wide range of rides, so many we couldn't fit them all in on one day...the pier was so-so and Blackpool in general was in a word FANTASTIC.
The Journey
From Swindon a supposed 4 hour journey, this however was not the case as we left middle of the afternoon (2pm) and hit all the traffic on the motorway. Ended up taking 6 hours!
The general motorway route is M5 then M6 then M55 junction 4. With my excellent map reading skills...

Advantages: Lots to do, places to go, never bored. Disadvantages: Littered streets, can be crowdy and noisy.
...Having moved here from when I was 2 years old, I do confess to know the in's and out's of life in Blackpool. I'm 26 now so I've lived here for over 20 years.
The trouble is, where do I begin? Blackpool has so many stories to tell and despite what may come to mind when you think of Blackpool it does hold lots of History and dates back to as far as Victorian times if not earlier.
We live outside the Town centre and I wouldn't really advise moving or living in the main centre of Blackpool myself as it can be noisy and attract vadalism as well as other crime. As so can all Towns and Cities not just Blackpool. Whilst visiting Blackpool you might think of staying near the Town centre there are many nice B & B's if you want less expensive accommodation. However, I might suggest trying near the sea front or on the Prom as many Hotels...

If you are one of the people who read my review on Blackpool pleasure beach you will know that I am a regular traveller to Blackpool. If you haven’t read my Blackpool pleasure beach review then why not? (Only kidding). Normally when I visit Blackpool I... more
I visited the Broadway Hotel in October 2007, and was very disappointed with the standards of accomidation in which the Broadway Hotel had to offer. I have never stayed in such a dirty and poorly presented Hotel, in all the years in which I have visited more
I know, I know, Blackpool is perceived as fish'n'chips, bucket and spades, amusement arcades, B&B's. What about something different?
