...Let me tell you about my home town: Lyon. If you're hesitating as to were you want to go for your next holidays, why not consider Lyon? If you're a student who wants to learn the language, Lyon is the perfect place to do so. It's Location: Lyon is considered to be the door to the South. Most Europeans, if they have traveled a little bit, have been through Lyon. Perhaps you can remember the horrible traffic jam in the tunnel that crosses the Fourvière hill. Most of you probably just rejoiced when you left the city because you almost suffocated to get through it. Lyon is not just a tunnel and a door to the South. It's a city packed with history, charm and beautiful sites to see. It's also a city that is really well located geographically. It's only two hours away from the beautiful alpine mountains. ...and a resplendent Musee Des Beaux Arts which is housed in a 17th century Abbey. Look out for the underground carparks that were co-designed by architects and artists, great fun. Since 1985 Lyon has been desperately trying to improve self-image and reputation, so a lot of money has been invested into the lighting of the city. This has worked wonders and as you stroll along the banks of the Saone at night, looking for a nice restaurant, (of which there are many,) you will appreciate the effort.... Read review

Disadvantages: Be early - the TGV waits for no man

...the wagon or carriage and seat number on your ticket. The TGV are bright orange and can have up to twenty carriages. They have very comfortable seats, rather like those on an airplane, and they recline as well as the rear of the seat in front has a pocket for your Walkman. Th ere is also a drink holder and table for you cans of beer. Well you?re not driving! Listen to four short albums and you are there! The route from Paris to Grenoble takes only 3 hours 11 minutes, guaranteed. The train uses the Paris-Lyon, which was the first ever, TGV route. You leave Paris at exactly, and I mean exactly, 14:30. You arrive in Grenoble bang on 17:39 after a couple of stops for Lyon and Lyon Airport after about two hours. When you arrive, it?s just a 6-minute tram ride and you are in Grenoble?s premier Irish pub ?The Shannon? with a full hour and a quarter... Read review
