Advantages: They do ice cream Disadvantages: The smell!
It seemed that everyone I know at some point has ranted about how good Subway is, to be honest I never really got it and just walking past the smell of it made me really not want to try it (I do have a supersonic sense of smell though!). But having to walk past the one next to the Tower of London every day I thought that considering they seem so popular I really should try before I judge on what they were like!
So I took the plunge ... ...in!
Now I don't know if it's just me, but I did find it all a little confusing, what you got with what, what you had to pay extra for. i really didn't think it was very clear. I ended up standing there for five minutes trying to figure it all out! I didn't manage to so when it finally got to my turn I had to ask what was what, what it came with and what was extra! I was greeted by the most unhelpful woman who seemed to not really care ... more

But having to walk past the one next to the Tower of London every day I thought that considering they seem so popular I really should try before I judge on what they were like!
So I took the plunge the other lunch time, held my nose and went in!

I ended up standing there for five minutes trying to figure it all out! I didn't manage to so when it finally got to my turn I had to ask what was what, what it came with and what was extra! I was greeted by the most unhelpful woman who seemed to not really care that I didn't understand and was more worried about getting to the next customer. Not a good start!
I finally went for a roll (I do think they look like something you get out of a petrol garage fridge) with some chicken and some sauce in it and some salad). She started to load up the rubber garage roll thing and it amazed me that she wasn't wearing any gloves! Not even the ones that all food makers wear! Now call me picky, but my first thought was 'what if she went to the toilet and didn't wash her hands' errrrrrr!!!!
When I went to pay, still thinking about the hands thing I was suprised at how expensive it was, over £4, the thing is when you look at the boards you seem to be under the illusion that it's all pretty reasonably priced!
I was still determined to figure out the whole subway experience so retired back to my desk and started to eat! Not too impressed with the first bit, very crunchy, toasted too much, too much sauce, the second bite wasn't much better and after the third it went in the bin!
So I have decided that all in all, the service was poor, the menus confusing, the price was too much and the taste wasn't that good either! Sorry subway fans, but I still just don't get it, have tried it once and not again! :-)
Advantages: Stack your sandwich with whatever you like - massive variety Disadvantages: Increasing popularity = bigger queues
As someone who dislikes tomatoes and mayonnaise, the opening of a branch of subway near my office in central London was a real bonus.
After years of walking around in lunchtime wilderness there was light at the end of the tunnel. 9/10 pre packed sandwiches include one of the two offending items, and you need a doorstep of a wallet to buy your lunch at many of central London’s sandwich shops - whose astronomical prices rarely equate to a gastronomical ... ...only do they offer and big choice of meat, seafood and veggie fillings, but all sandwiches are prepared freshly in front of you. The staff are more than happy to load them up with as much salad and garnish as you can stomach, and again there is a big choice. And they offer a choice of freshly baked breads at no extra cost - the Parmesan and oregano varieties top my list. I always found a 6 inch sub more than sufficient, but if you're feeling extra ...

now i've eaten subway both here and over in New York and i must say that they are very gorgeous to eat. i reccommend the chicken marinara or the sweet onion chicken teryaki. you can choose your bread, the size, the salad, the dressing and of course the perfect sandwich filling. and you can choose anything from a normal cheese to something more grand like meatballs.they also sell a small range of pastries and cookies. i always get great service when ...

Advantages: So much to see and do Disadvantages: Exhausting if you try to. Might not want to come home, leading to forgetting to paying the mortgage and having the house re-possessed!
for chauffeured limo hire, using the shuttle bus service for the return journey. Costing around $46, limo hire compares pretty well with a Yellow Cab, and there?s a sporting chance that your driver might even know where you want, or even speak English, (even if ours was Russian). Anyway, turning up in a swanky glossy black Lincoln Town Car (the bare bones of a stretched limo, without the ?stretch? bit) adds a bit of style to arriving at a mid-town hotel, and makes it much more likely that the doorman will fetch your bags.
Alternatively, JFK now has a shuttle train service interchanging with the Subway lines. This sounds fine, but as with the Heathrow Piccadilly Line link to centralLondon, this involves arriving in downtown Manhattan with luggage on the Subway. You?ll see when I write about this later, that this is not your most user-friendly option ...
