As many of you know, I love my food, hell, I love other peoples food too, and I always like to try the latest trend.
Subway....maybe not the latest trend (They've been in America since 1965 and the UK since 1996) but the brand is becoming more and more visible every day, where I live (In Manchester UK), there are now at least 8 in the city centre alone!
The main advantage of Subway is that even though it's a fast food chain, it's as healthy as you can get....nothing is fried, and there are many low fat options, in the 7 under 6 range, namely, seven sandwiches with under six grams of fat in each, of course, if you're adding extra cheese and sauces to these subs, then beware ;o)
Nationally, Subway's differ only in certain product offers and regional price differences, but for the most part, you can be sure of a decent meal wherever you are in the UK...
In my local branch, there are about 18 different varieties of sandwich on offer, and these can
be had in either 6 or 12 inch variations, there are six breads to choose from, Italian (plain white), Hearty Italian (as Italian, but coated in yellow cornmeal), Italian Herbs and Cheese (speaks for itself really, with cheddar/monterey jack cheese melted on top) , Parmesan Oregano (um), Wheat (plain brown) and Honey Oat ( as wheat but coated in honey, and er, oats)
I find all the breads tasty, but *my* favourites are the Honey Oat or the Parmesan Oregano.
First, choose your bread, then, choose your size....you can have either 6 inches or 12, depends how greedy you are ;o) Then choose your fillings...in my branch, you can choose from (wait for it) cheese, ham, turkey, steak, chicken breast, chicken teryaki (japanese glazed chicken), tuna mayonnaise, chicken tikka, roast beef, salami, pepperoni, feta cheese, bacon, bbq rib, Veggie max (vegetarian pattie) and as much salad as you can get on the bread, it doesn't even stop there, you then have a choice of sauces, Honey Mustard, Chipotle Southwest (mild cayenne pepper) Red WIne vinaigrette, Sweet Onion, Dijon Horseradish, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, ketchup, brown sauce and chilli.
Whatever combination of sandwich you decide on, it's then freshly prepared for you while you watch, and twee though it sounds, there's a reason the staff are referred to as 'Sandwich Artists' If you've ever watched an accomplished staff member make you a sandwich, the finished product really *does* look like the picture, a fact I *always* find reassuring, and I've never been let down yet, in all the branches I've visited, there's a certain pride taken in the creation of your lunch....see if you get *that* from McBoring!
Prices are fairly reasonable, depending on which region you live in you can pay anywhere between approsimately £1.69 for a 6 inch veggie delight (Cheese and salad) up to the sky's the limit for you adventurous types who like it all piled on, but you can generally expect to pay around a fiver for a more generously filled 12 inch sandwich. you can choose which salad options to have on your sandwich also, onions, lettuce, tomatos, cucumbers, pickles, green peppers, olives and jalapenos peppers to choose from...
Subway also offer a range of salads for your delectation, with a new range of 'low carb' options to suit any diet, any sandwich can be made into a salad for you.
If it's dessert you're after, Subway also bake their own cookies and muffins on the premises for those of us with a sweet tooth, the cookies are White Chocolate and Macadamia, M+M, Oatmeal and raisin and Chocolate chip, muffins come in Blueberry, Chocolate chip and Double Chocolate, once again, these are the choices in my local branches, I have no doubt there are regional differences.
There are quite often special offers on instore, such as the recent '2-4-1' offer, but you can get a fresh meal deal, which is your sandwich, a drink, either refillable cup or bottle and either a packet of crisps or a cookie.
Subway also do decent breakfasts, on their Deli Style Rolls which also form the basis for the kids meal packs, which include a drink, a toy, a sandwich (erm), a cookie and a fruit winder or some such confection.
So what are you waiting for? Fresh bread, baked on the premises every 4 hours, a wide range of fresh fillings, fresh salad, many many choices and a reasonable price as well, you could do a lot worse and live a little less longer eating *other* fast food......

I love subway more than any other fast food - even though its the healthy option - crazy stuff! I wish I could make sandwhiches like this my self. I'd almost consider becoming a Subway 'sandwhich artist' just so I could have an enjoyable lunch hour everyday!
