Advantages: freshness, good value, huge sandwiches, nice clean stores Disadvantages: can be a bit pricey
...If you are new to subway, it can be a bit difficult to know how or what to order, especially with the wide choice on offer. The menus boards are not as clearly defined as say MacD's or other food chains. Saying that once you get used to it, it is pretty easy to make your choice and order.
As I stated earlier it can seem a little expensive compared to other food chains, but then remember to take advantage of the free refills, meal deals and ... more
I first visited a Subway store in Southampton whilst looking for a quick bite to eat. I was very surprised by how tasty the sandwich was and by the wide choice of food on offer. Now I visit my local store regularly and love the food. The bread is baked fresh in-store each day, the same goes for the cookies and danish.
Pros The food. The actual sandwich is a bagette which is very large and extremely soft, unlike most other sandwich bars offering crusty and much smaller bagettes. You choose between the full size the 'footlong' or have half the size the '6 inch'. Once you choose the size, you then choose the bread type offering standard white, herb and cheese, parmesan or cornmeal, or you can have wheat or honey oat. Now you choose your filling from a range such as chicken teriacki, steak, bbq rib, meatball, turkey/bacon, melt, beef, ham, tuna etc. They also offer a couple of veggie options. Once you have done this, you choose your salad filling from freshly prepared ingredients. They put on a set amount but are always willing to add more if you want it. Finally you get to choose what sauce you want or more than one sauce if you want to mix them. Subway also offer salads and wraps (low carb) and have now just started offering an option to have your sandwich toasted. The sandwich is packed into a bag which you take away or sit in to eat. If you sit in, then you get free refills on your coffee or soft drinks. The price varies from approx £2 for a veggie or ham to approx £3 for a steak or teriacki. This does seem expensive compared to a sandwich from Marks and Spencer or Greggs, but it is much larger and as you can see from above you get the choice of ingrediants. You can have a meal deal which includes a bag or crips/cookie and a drink for an extra £1.20, this I think makes the price comparable to other food chains, especially as you get free refills on the drinks. Also Subway do regularly offer discounts on the sandwiches so keep your eye out for them.
Cleanliness and health and safety. The staff always wear gloves to make the sandwiches and change these between making each sandwich, but I noticed that on some occasions they did not change gloves and asked why. It was because at busy times the staff go into what is called 'production line' i.e. the customer gets passed down the line from staff member to staff member, the sandwich server stays in the same spot completing the same task each time. However the staff assured me that if at any time a customer asks them to change gloves then they will do so, most reassuring! My local store looks clean and staff clear tables regularly, the loos are clean and maintained in good condition. The store is brightly lit and the decor is well maintained with no broken tables/chairs or equipment.
Cons If you are new to subway, it can be a bit difficult to know how or what to order, especially with the wide choice on offer. The menus boards are not as clearly defined as say MacD's or other food chains. Saying that once you get used to it, it is pretty easy to make your choice and order. As I stated earlier it can seem a little expensive compared to other food chains, but then remember to take advantage of the free refills, meal deals and discounts offered by your local restaurant, this makes your meal much better value for money.
Advantages: There when you need them, either for an alternative to the other fast food shops Disadvantages: none really.
The first Subway i went to was in Blackpool last year and i was amazed by the bread and the choose of fillings, sauces, and size.
Just resentley our local shopping center Merry Hill have opend a subway shop just outside the center by a pub and Bus station.
Also in Stourbridge on the ring road, both with excelent service and plenty of room to sit, a good place to take friends and chat and eat.
