The ups and downs of Zagreb

Advantages: Elegant architecture, plenty of green spaces, lots of museums, good food
Disadvantages: Not so good for people with mobility problems

is the fascinating Mirogoj cemetery with its grand mausolea and exceptionally attractive landscaped grounds. Alternatively you could take a tram to Maksimir Park which boasts the first public promenade in south east Europe, dating from the end of the eighteenth century; the park has artificial lakes, several pretty pavilions and is a great place for a picnic. Zagreb is not just a nineteenth century city, there are some older parts such as Tkalciceva which is quite pretty and quaint, but much of it has been rebuilt. Still this is a nice area for strolling and shopping (there is some interesting little galleries and shops here) and it's also a good area to eat as there are lots of restaurants including one or two konobas (a konoba is a traditional restaurant serving typical Croatian fare). Advantages: Quickness, Taste

Subway Review Subway is a worldwide chain restaurant with nearly 31,000 stores in 89 countries; it was created by Fed De Lua in 1974, an American from Connecticut. Most of the stores are quite small, the main product is ?subs,? short for submarine rolls, and sandwiches. Their main location is the United States, where they have most of their stores, however they also are based in many other countries, the main ones being Australia, the UK and Singapore. There are also subways in some unusual locations such as army bases. Where I live there are at least ten within twenty minutes, and in the main city I have counted at least four in the centre. Advantages: Sub of the day is a bargain, large variety of choice
Disadvantages: Can be expensive, not as healthy as it seems

You go into the store and order exactly what you want. You choose from a selection of 4 breads and whether you want a 6 inch (which is half a sub) or a footlong (full sub). You can also choose whether you would prefer a wrap or even if you would just like a salad. There is a large variety of fillings, you choose whether you have and what salad fillings you have, sauce and whether you would like salt and pepper. You can also choose whether you want cheese and you want it toasted. You can choose double cheese or double meats but there is an extra cost to this.
