When my boyfriend told me that his auntie had bought an apartment in Bulgaria and that we were going on holiday there my first thought was why?
I had never thought about going to Bulgaria for a holiday, I'm used to a clubbing holiday and Bulgaria just didn't appeal to me. We looked at some flights and found one at just £304 for the two of us so I thought cheap holiday!
We arrived at Bourgas airport, which is the most convenient for Sunny beach. The security at the airport is very tight and it can take a while to get through all the check points but at least it's good.
We were staying at the Elite 3 apartment's which is part of an apartment complex, all with very large pools, bar, restaurants, shops and amusements. The Elite 3 is very clean and safe with its own security guard at the gate. The pool bar also serves very nice food, at very reasonable prices, all day and you can even get a massage by the pool while you relaxe.
From our apartment we had to cross a very busy main road with no crossings and no lighting at night. So if you are thinking of going to sunny beach with children be sure you are down in the town as it just wouldn't be safe.
Once in the main town there are a lot of very nice restaurants, most with very good entertainment at night and all with very good menus, something for all tastes. As you move closer to the beach you will find more of the party bars and clubs so it's a good idea to investigate during the day as the more you walk the more you find. Most of the bars and clubs have specials on some night so keep an eye out for flyers that get you in for free or buy one get one free on drinks.
There are two water parks close to Sunny Beach both with free buses that pick you up from the local bus stops all around the resort, there's no need to book through a rep.
Bulgaria is not one of the top holiday destinations in the UK so one thing I noticed was that there was a lot more Scandinavian and German visitors than British which is not a bad thing but we only met about 4 other people that were British.
I was very pleasantly surprised with Bulgaria, it has it all Sun, Sea and clubs and I'm going back this year, highly recommended as a holiday destination.

I knew a couple who went to Bulgaria on holiday in the late 70's and early 80's./ They were regarded as rather odd (card carrying communists actually!) - fortunately things have moved on somewhat since as your review hilights. Richard.
