Sunshine, directed by Istvan Szabo, is an award winning co-production between Austria, Germany, Canada and Hungary. An historical film, the story weaves through 3 generations of a Jewish family in Hungary from the turn of the 20th century to the communist regime post 1956 examining issues of family, torn loyalty and the effects of our personal and national history upon our lives.
The film follows the lives of 3 generations of the Sonnenshein family, all played by Ralph Fiennes, through the intense upheavals of the period. Advantages: Visually stunning Disadvantages: A bit chaotic towards the end
The decision whether to watch "Sunshine", the newest collaboration between director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, was always going to be an easy one. I'm a big fan of "Trainspotting", which was also directed by Danny Boyle and my girlfriend loves "28 Days Later", which was a previous joint project for the two. So with a Sunday afternoon with nothing much to do stretching before us and "Sunshine" having just opened, it was only left to decide which showing to attend and to hope previous enjoyment would not set our expectations too high.

Little Miss Sunshine is a bit of a different film to the type that I enjoy watching but none the less it is one of my favourites. It first came out in the cinemas in 2006, so is a couple of years old now.
Little Miss Sunshine is about an American family. They are not the perfect family that is normally depicted in films though, they are a bit rough round the edges. The dad Richard (Greg Kinnear) is a life coach who is trying his hardest to become a successful business man but failing. Mum Sheryl (Toni Collette) is trying to do her best for her whole family but can't help arguing with Richard. Grandpa Edwin (Allan Arkin) has been kicked out of his home for taking drugs and so the family have to take care of him. He loves spending time to help prepare Olive for her beauty pageants though.
