I have been to this hotel a couple of times, it is very cheap, depending on when you want to go. For example, you could go for a week in October for 2 people for a total of 500 pounds for the room only on a self catering basis. Dont forget to add flights, you can get cheap flights if you shop around, cheapflights.com is very good, we went to Barbados for 450 pounds each for the flight with XL Airways.
Sunswept Beach Hotel is on the West Coast, about 40 minutes from Grantley Adams Airport. The rooms are basic, with air conditioning, cable television and a small kitchenette, the view is fabulous, the hotel is right on the beach and you can watch the sunset every night from your balcony. The place was spotless and the staff were lovely. There is a reasonably priced restaurant right next door called Cocomos. Over the road is a shopping Mall, which has a supermarket, to get all your basic shopping and there are some lovely souvenir shops and duty free goods too.
There are plenty of great restaurants nearby, Olives, Tides to name a few. There is also the local Chefette, which is like our KFC over here if you just want to eat cheaply. You can get the local bus to anywhere on the island, it only costs about one and a half dollars, but beware they travel very fast and are sometimes packed full. The bus stops over the road from the hotel, there is also a taxi stand opposite the hotel. There are also lots of small chattel type souvenir shops nearby, which sell unusual gifts.
I would go to this hotel again, if you are looking for a cheap bargain, then this is the place. It is not 5 star luxury, but you get what you pay for. Every room faces the glorious beach and the view alone is breathtaking and worth every penny.
Currency out there is US Dollar or Barbados Dollar, one US Dollar is equal roughly to two barbados dollars. You can buy fresh fruit and snacks from the street vendors or head to the supermarket to stock up your kitchenette. The water is pure, you can drink it from the tap. The people, the way of life, everything about Barbados is beautiful, once you go there, you will always want to go back. Enjoy.
