I recently had a short stay in this hotel whilst travelling with work. I was very impressed! The hotel is rated as a 4 star but I would say that it's actually on par with a couple of 5 stars that I have stayed in and certainly better than several other 4 star hotels that I have reviewed.
About the hotel:
The Westin is located in down town Calgary. The location is excellent but then Calgary is a pretty small place! I walked to the Calgary Tower in under 15 minutes. There are over 500 rooms.
Check-In:
I was pleasantly surprised to find the reception staff were actually waiting for us with our room cards already arranged for us. After a 9 hour flight this efficiency was most welcomed. The reception area is quite small but cosy unlike some hotels where it is very grand and daunting. There is a Starbucks on the left hand side of reception ...
Advantages: Suite hotel in downtown Calgary with great food Disadvantages: Some traffic noise
Our travel agent reserved a suite for us at the International Hotel in Downtown Calgary for the first night of our Canadian holiday. Opened in 1970 with 248 suites, it was only 6km from the airport and reached in about 15 minutes by taxi, but the estimated time on the airport shuttle bus was 1 hour as it stops at several hotels en route. Calgary has a structure of avenues and streets in grid formation and the hotel is on 4th Avenue Southwest, close to Chinatown and two blocks away from the Light railway for getting around the city.
Reception, was bright and comfortable settees and chairs were around the long narrow area. Check in was quick and easy and a credit card was needed for incidental expenses, in no time we were directed to one of the lifts and would have been zooming our way to the 7th floor and our suite if we had realised ...
Advantages: Great 4-way multiplayer quality, for a platformer Disadvantages: A lot of recycled or uninspired material
3 years after the successful reincarnation of the classic Super Mario Bros. adventuring recipe on the DS, Nintendo brings the formula to its second most popular console, also introducing what series' creator Shigeru Miyamoto was aspiring to integrate for the past couple of decades: true co-operative multiplayer modes.
The Story
You might easily regard the story of New Super Mario Brothers Wii as the biggest cliché of all time. It is, after all, about rescuing princesses from a dragons' fortresses and it's been pretty much the same for every Super Mario platformer in existence... but I choose to see it a bit differently.
I find the true story behind every Super Mario platformer is one of surreality & escapism. It's about being transported into a completely nonsensical world, one filled ...
