...In 1997 my husband was offered a job in Terengganu, Malaysia. We were very lucky to be able to spend several years in a location that most people dream about. We had a penthouse apartment overlooking the South China Sea and the nearby resort hotel for leisure and entertainment.
The Awana Kijal Golf and BeachResort can be found at the edge of the Malaysian kampong known as Kijal. This is in the state of Terengganu on the east Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, roughly opposite Kuala Lumpur. The nearest large town would be Kuantan, in the state of Pahang. I think that the hotel opened in 1995.
The hotel itself is owned by the Genting Group of Companies, a Malaysian conglomerate specialising in the retail and leisure market. There are other Awana hotels to be found in the Genting Highlands, (outside KL) and on the island of Langkawi...

If you like Five star hotel treatment then stay in the Cherating Hotel. It is located by the sea and has good service. It will cost you approximately £30 a night. But if you can rough it out there are many travelers lodges around the city and will cost you anything between £6-£10, depending on which sort of package you choose.
Kuantan is also famous for it Nasi Dagang ( a type of local fish and special rice). So don't miss on trying it. If you are lucky you might also get to see turtles at the beach. But this not as common as in Terengganu (another state in this country). To me going to malaysia once is not enough. there is a lot of things about this country that remains undiscovered. Especially the way the people live....

...This review is based purely on our holiday to Lily Beach Island Resort in February 2005. We were a bit unsure about this holiday whether we were going or not due to the Tsunami 26th Dec 2004. I would like you to spare a thought for those who lost their lives in such a tragic event and those who lost everything they owned.
There are many different islands offering many different holidays. For a impartial view on all holidays I suggest you buy RESORTS oF THE MALDIVES by Adrian Neville
