Donated to the town of Sutton by Henry VIII himself this is the largest municipal parkland in Europe (as my fact loving girlfriend informs me!) and boasts square miles of beautiful untouched woodland walks, impressively-sized lakes and rugged, wild grassland. There are helpful signs around the perimeter of the park detailing the myriad species of wildlife, flora and fauna you can expect to encounter on your walk around the park grounds.
For those of you who hate to be away from civilisation for any considerable amount of time there is a well-run snack bar by the entrance gates (don't have the coffee!) or, for a special occasion, an exquisite restaurant by one of the larger lakes which serves good food in truly breathtaking surroundings.

I lived in Sutton Coldfield for 10 years from the age of 10, so it was fantastic having such a great park to roam around during my childhood literally 5 minuites walk away from my house.
Sutton Park is not a park in the normal sense, it is 2400 acres in area which include 600 acres of woodlands, 7 lakes and wild grasslands. If you get to know the park well you will have no problem finding parts of the park where you can literally have acres to yourself ... ...it. Bracebridge Pool is the most scenic of all the lakes as it is surrounded by woodlands, and there is a great restaurant there. There is also a small Lido at Keepers Pool which is open during the summer months. A visit to Sutton Park is a great day out. ...
Advantages: local history of a Royal Park The FIRST DVD EVER OF SUTTON PARK OUT SOON Disadvantages: none
Before the birmingham to sutton railway was built in 1862
visitors to sutton and the park came by omnibus-- a journey whith took the horse buses about 80 minutes.
In the 1840s an added attraction was the construction of a race course
in sutton park covering the plateau above blackroot gravel pit and extending from north of holly knoll to just beyond the present railway line--which at that time did not exist. In 1847 it was the venue for the birmingham ... ...to accomadate the punters.
But sutton corporation had misgivings about the impact on the park
and with the structures erected-- and in 1849 ordered them to be taken down.Racing ceased there when in 1868 a new racecourse was constructed between westwood coppice and longmore pool.
Over 139 years later evidence of the old first racecourse can still be seen

Advantages: Massive, beautiful countryside in parts, great for walking Disadvantages: Very busy at Town Gate during peak periods
I have lived in Sutton Coldfield for 20 years, Sutton Park is one thing residents of Sutton Coldfield are proud to have. I have visited hundereds of times as it's only 15 minutes walk from where I live.
The park is massive, it's at least a 6 mile walk around the perimeter, you could easily get lost. There are open fields, woods, lakes, foot paths, 2 pubs with resturants, childrens playground, cafe, full Leisure and fitness Complex called Wyndley ... ...than others. Town gate is the most popular as it has the main childrens play area, however at weekends it's packed. If you travel by car, you can no longer travel far throughout the park without leaving and re-entering through another gate. Also during peak times at Town Gate they have started charging a pound entrance fee per car. This is partly because of youths using it as a race track. ...

Our Heart-warming stay in Norton Park Hotel
Some rambling about the booking first
After our rather disappointing trip to Cardiff, I was left determined to have a decent holiday, after all I have been working hard non-stop for 6 months now in my new full time job - will save this for another review. My mum has also been much in need of a break, so after a lot of pestering, she agreed to take a break somewhere, as long as it was not too far to drive, not too expensive and had some things for us to do. It would be just the two of us as my dad and sister had to go back to work (cough haha). After some browsing on last minute dot com, and plenty of hesitation, we decided the south would be the best way to go. We were actually hoping to find something in Southampton - and, well, we did, but it was more expensive and when we then ...
Advantages: Excellent food, atmosphere and service Disadvantages: A little pricey
In Walsall there is an area called Streetly, one of the nicer areas of the town. It is not far from Aldridge and SuttonPark.
The Ruby has been there for years and every nowandagain we go for a special meal. The food is excellent and the service is spot on - no complaints whatsoever. You need a car/taxi to get there. The general decor is pleasing and when there are alot of folks in the atmosphere is jolly and bubbly.
It is not cheap - but having said that there are more expensive restaurants around. As the food is so good as a special occasion it is really a special place to wine and dine and be romantic.
Recommend the Aromatic Crispy Duck for starters - YUM!!!
If you search the BT Yellow Pages for The Ruby at Walsall (Streetly) you will find the address, phone number and map - so go and enjoy! ...

NAME OF LOCATION: Long Sutton Wildlife and Butterfly Park, off the A17 in Lincolnshire, a short distance from Gedney.
BACKGROUND: My boyfriend Robert and I wanted to go on holiday with his best mate Richard and his girlfriend Michelle so we collected tokens from my parents' Daily Express for their holiday offer. We then decided we needed a stop off en-route to Gt Yarmouth and this attraction was just over the 2 hour marker from home.
I typed the postcode (PE12 9LE) for this attraction into the AA and RAC route finder websites and got very explicit directions on how to get there.
ATTRACTIONS:
Bird of prey centre, where for a charge of £2 you can have your photograph taken with certain owls - the proceeds go to the upkeep of the birds. Displays of birds flying are held twice daily during the summer and at 2pm in low season ...
