The Swan Hotel is an elegant hotel, which is part of the ‘Paten Hotels’ chain. This hotel overlooks the River Ouse and yet is situated this stands on a site in the heart of Bedford’s town centre. It is a magnificent grade II listed building, built in 1794 for the 5th Duke of Bedford, now offering excellent modern amenities combined with traditional values of comfort and care, associated in ‘days gone by!’

My favourite place to visit, as a non-resident is the carefully designed public areas offer. It is a sunken seating area, set out of the hustle and bustle of this scrumptiously elegant hotel, a meandering lounges offer an ideal retreat in which to enjoy morning coffee or indulge in a sumptuous afternoon tea. I love to park my car in their car-park, go shopping in Bedford, and then spoil myself with a light lunch or afternoon tea. It serves as a great meeting point too, particularly in winter, when cold and windy outside!
The River Room Restaurant offers a fine selection of cuisine and wines from around the world. I personally was not overly impressed when I used the restaurant for a birthday meal for Shane. The service was slow and disorganised and I found the food to be nothing overly special.

There is a wide range of distinctive conference and meeting rooms provide for both business and conference events: from small meetings to national conferences accommodating up to 200/250 delegates. When John Bunyan was alive the town of Bedford had a tiny population of about 2,000;today this thriving commercial and industrial centre has around 140,000 people. The town is located on one of the most attractive stretches of the River Great Ouse and enjoys excellent road and rail
communications - it is close to the MI and the AI highways and there are good rail services from London to Bedford,at least when Railtrack is not at work !

Restaurant which serves some very delectable food. Sadly, limited public transport is available although it is a very pleasant walk along the River Embankment to reach this Park.
This really sums up the bulk of the main tourist attractions in Bedford. Once you've spent 2 days looking, and travelling, to these places you'll probably be a little peckish. Well, don't get too excited as Bedford doesn't offer many unusual or quaint places to eat. There's plenty of Pizza Places, Indian Takeaways, Chinese Takeaways, the usual MacDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut but sadly lacking in much else. If you're wanting a really nice meal out somewhere I would suggest the Barns Hotel and Restaurant, they quite pricey but really do provide some excellent cuisine.
Accommodation in Bedford is also sadly lacking, there's the SwanHotel, and the Moat Hotel both ...
