The Swan Hotel, Bedford, reminds me of my childhood, when my Grandmother took my brother, Gareth, stay and I on our first in a hotel ever. It is a unique hotel, which seems to invite relaxation and calm. There is even a leisure centre inviting its guests to unwind and is a complimentary facility to any guests staying overnight, in the hotel. This takes the form of a ‘Roman Style’ Leisure Pool and Spa Bath.

The Swan Hotel is an elegant hotel, which is part of the ‘Paten Hotels’ chain. This hotel overlooks the River Ouse and yet is situated this stands on a site in the heart of Bedford’s town centre. It is a magnificent grade II listed building, built in 1794 for the 5th Duke of Bedford, now offering excellent modern amenities combined with traditional values of comfort and care, associated in ‘days gone by!’

The Swan Hotel comprises of one hundred and ten en-suite bedrooms. It is an ideal location for touring Althorp, the ancestral home and final resting-place of Diana, Princess of Wales, as well as Knebworth House, Whipsnade Zoo and Woburn Abbey.

My favourite place to visit, as a non-resident is the carefully designed public areas offer. It is a sunken seating area, set out of the hustle and bustle of this scrumptiously elegant hotel, a meandering lounges offer an ideal retreat in which to enjoy morning coffee or indulge in a sumptuous afternoon tea. I love to park my car in their car-park, go shopping in Bedford, and then spoil myself with a light lunch or afternoon tea. It serves as a great meeting point too, particularly in winter, when cold and windy outside!

The River Room Restaurant offers a fine selection of cuisine and wines from around the world. I personally was not overly impressed when I used the restaurant for a birthday meal for Shane. The service was slow and disorganised and I found the food to be nothing overly special.

**Rooms and Cost**

All rooms include have hospitality tray, hairdryer, trouser press, 24 hour room service, colour television and direct dial telephone, in a well-lit workspace. Non-smoking bedrooms are available too. I think that is pretty standard for a three star hotel.

Within the one hundred and ten rooms there is one suite, two junior suites, twenty-five twin rooms, fifty-nine double rooms, nineteen single rooms and four family rooms.

Single Room: £76.00
Double/Twin Room: £84.50
Junior Suite: £95.00

**As a Conference venue**

I went to a Sports Philosophy conference, held at the Swann Hotel, Bedford last year and I was impressed by the standard of service available, for day delegates. There is a wide range of distinctive conference and meeting rooms provide for both business and conference events: from small meetings to national conferences accommodating up to 200/250 delegates. At the conference I attended there was around 100 people, some of whom had flown in from America, Canada and Europe.

The hotel offers two packages, allowing different party’s needs to be met.

*Day Delegates*

Welcoming coffee
Hire of main meeting room
Morning coffee & biscuits
A Two-course buffet lunch
Afternoon tea & biscuits
Delegate pads, pencils & name-cards
Flipchart, overhead projector & screen
Organiser's Toolkit

*24 hour Delegates

As for Day delegates plus:
3 course table d’hôte dinner plus coffee
Accommodation with en-suite facilities, direct-dial telephone, TV & radio, trouser press, hairdryer, well-lit workspace, hospitality tray, wake-up call services
Use of leisure facilities where available
Choice of continental or full English Breakfast

A Conference Co-ordinator is available to assist and guide the organisation of events and there is dedicated team of staff will ensure everything runs smoothly on the day. A detailed schedule of events, indicating timings, the room layout, anticipated numbers and costs would be provided for every event. The designated meeting room, along with any pre-ordered equipment, will be checked & ready prior to the scheduled start time. Business services such as faxes, photocopying and daily post will be carried out as required.

All in all I have to say that I like this hotel, so much so that I paid for my parents to stay the weekend of their fortieth Wedding Anniversary.

Nice op, I found it very helpful. I lived 6 miles away from Bedford for most of my childhood and I am very fond of the town. I didn't realise how big the hotel was, I suppose usually it was just that white building on the embankment that I had to walk passed to get to the dentist. Mind elsewhere to worry about the hotel itself. Hotel in big favour of freinds of mine. They recently got married and the hotel in Clapham(north of Bedford) had booked their first night of the honeymoon as a single room!! Swan hotel came to the rescue at very last minute and did themselves proud. Anna P.S Tell me more about Sally Bear!!!

sounds like a great hotel and prices don't look all that bad eh! Bring a few memories back I guess?
