A Jewel in Swansea's Crown!

Advantages: Great rooms; Lovely staff; Fabulous restaurant; Good location
Disadvantages: No sea view

** Background ** I have stayed at Morgans Hotel twice now and it has been a real treat! The second time we stayed there my husband proposed to me and I accepted. He chose Morgans because he knew how much I had enjoyed my first stay there. My husband is Swansea 'born and bred' and so we go and stay in Swansea twice a year. Sometimes we stay with relatives but often we try out the local hotels and Morgans is my favourite hotel with The Marriott coming a close second. For me the one thing that sets Morgans above the Marriott is the fabulous restaurant. It's food and atmosphere are excellent - very sophisticated! **Hotel Background** The building itself is an old administrative maritime building and so has a real character to it. Apparently it is a Grade II listed building! It has twenty rooms which have all been individually ...

Review of Morgans Hotel, Swansea

Swansea, the area

Advantages: It's situated in the most amazing countryside in the UK
Disadvantages: The weather

The phrase 'the graveyard of ambition' is frequently used to describe Swansea (as in films such as 'Twintown'). This is in many cases true. I first moved to Swansea to study there in 2003 and haven't wanted to move yet. I even intend on after studying to live and build my life here. WHERE and WHAT Swansea is situated in South West Wales and is easily accesable from the M4 and is home to Britain's first area of outstanding beauty. The Brecon Beacons is only half and hours drive away and the city is on the cusp of the Gower Penisula. Swansea hosts a 5 mile beach extending from the Marina to the village of Mumbles. The people of Swansea are referred to as Swansea Jack's (after the tale of Jack the labrador who rescued many lives) and although a Welsh city only a small percent actually speak welsh fluently. Swansea was the birth ...

Review of Swansea (Wales)

Shopping in Swansea, South Wales.

Advantages: Good Range of Shops.
Disadvantages: Fairly Spread Out - ie: Requires Walking.

I like Swansea. Not very much, but it'll do. I'm kind of limited when it comes to shopping areas, unless I have £15 to throw away on the train journey to Cardiff. For me, Swansea is a £4.30, hour and a half bus ride from home, or a 20 minute drive. When it comes to the shops, town centre is pretty good. It has a diverse range of shops to suit young and old. The one thing I dislike is the fact that it's so spread out. Woolworths and Argos are on opposite sides of town, all the banks are a few roads up on the Kingsway, there are so many branches of Clinton Cards I've lost count. Personally, and maybe this is just me, I don't find it easy to find shops in Swansea. If you're after a certain shop and you don't know where it is but you're pretty sure there's one around, you're pretty much resigned to walk the streets until you find ...
