Advantages: Great Scenery, lots to do Disadvantages: long bus rides to see the whole area
staying it is very central and clean. We were greeted by 2 friendly tour guides who took our bags and asked us questions on what we liked to eat.
BAY OF ISLANDS
The Waitangi Motel is where we stayed in Paihia. The motel had a massive living area with separate bedroom, bathroom and living space.
Here you can swim with dolphins. We did not do this option however were glad as the group didn't actually get to swim with them as the pod had their babies with them so it would have been dangerous. There is also a boat ride which you can take called 'Hole in a Rock' adventure at NZ $72pp.
With 144 islands and bays we decided to go to Russell Island. Russell Island was the first/capital island of NewZealand. We walked to the pier which is about a 10 minute walk from the motel and went to Russell Island by the fast (red) ferry which cost NZ ...

Advantages: Somewhere very diiferent, Maori culture, boiling mud and geysers Disadvantages: the smell was a little off putting, Maori evening was awful
ROTORUA:
Rotorua is on the North island of New Zealand almost in the middle about three hours drive from Auckland and six from Wellington.
We stayed at the Sudima Hotel right beside Lake Rotorua and as we got off the bus the interesting sulphur smell of Rotorua greeted us. It is quite a strong rotten egg sort of smell that gets in to everywhere. I didn?t find it too revolting but others in our group found it very over powering and complained constantly that it even pervaded the air-conditioning in the rooms.
The town is quite small enough to walk around the main sights, the lovely steaming lake and the park alongside it and all the way to Ohinemutu. On our first evening we went to the Tamika Maori evening ( see separate review on this one)

have found that not many people visit this beautiful place as they are so eager to work their way South. I however loved this part of New Zealand and spent 5 days here, if you are on a quick tour you will only need 3 days.
The Bay of Islands is a great place to get up close and personal with Dolphins, it is here that I went of a swimming with dolphins cruise! A full day trip taking you out to find dolphins and to swim with them, we saw 3 pods of dolphins and saw about 60 overall was a truly incredible experience.
Also from here you can do a day trip to Cape Reinga along the 90 mile beach, this is a great day trip and what an experience to drive along the beach. You also get to see the historic lighthouse, if you send a postcard from here you get a special stamp put on it, so if you are into things like that then I suppose that is ...
