Advantages: Complete flexibility; The company motto is: "nothing is too much trouble"; It has a large following of guests who come back year after year; Reps are experts on their resort, speak the local language, and are available 24 hours a day. Disadvantages: Expensive; Switzerland is not much of a party nation, so ravers are better off in Ibiza.

Working as a night porter in a Swiss hotel in the resort of Davos a few years ago, I had the opportunity to serve a number of STS guests staying in the hotel and elsewhere in the resort, and worked with the STS Rep and various Tour Leaders.
The company's philosophy is clear: complete satisfaction, complete flexibility, complete coverage. In addition to guided tours right across Switzerland, the company also offers guests the opportunity to go on breaks to individual resorts. They can choose from a number of resorts and, more importantly, they decide how long to stay, when to fly out, what to do, and often have a choice of hotels, though in Switzerland, most hotels tend to be of an equally high standard.
During my time in Switzerland the STS guests basically had little alternative but to be completely happy with the whole package: the four-star hotel offered spacious balcony apartments, wonderful meals and first class service, not to mention a bar, indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Temperatures (bearing in mind it was summer and a mile above sea level) ranged from 35 to 45 degrees Celsius, but the high altitude meant fresh, clean mountain air and a breeze which kept the humidity at bay.
Most importantly, the Rep worked tirelessly to make sure that the guests were met on arrival, whisked off to their rooms where their luggage would be waiting for them already, given the opportunity to discuss what the resort had to offer over coffee in the lounge at a time of their choosing and one-on-one with the Rep herself, and kept up to date with new information about the resort. The Rep would also make sure the luggage was safely transferred ahead of them on the way back and see them off.
I have nothing but praise for this company and would recommend it to anyone looking to spend some time relaxing in the spa towns or mountain resorts of Switzerland, whether for skiing and snowboarding in the winter or hiking, biking and sight-seeing in the summer. Of course, the high standards come with a hefty price tag attached, but the money is spent safe in the knowledge that the company will move heaven and earth to ensure your complete satisfaction.
