I have flown by Swiss Air on six occasions (London to Zurich return) over the past nine years, but I will be using a different airline next time.
On the flight out the co-pilot did not appear to know where he was, or even where he was flying. You could hear the pauses in his announcement as he desperately tried to find out from his colleagues on the flight deck. He also told us that you could see Paris below, before realising that in fact you couldn't because of the cloud. It was with relief that we landed at the correct destination after such confidence boosting commentary.
The flight back was even more eventful, starting with the check in at our holiday resort. I asked for a seat by the exit - for the extra legroom - and I was assured that this was available and had been allocated. Imagine my shock when I got onto the plane and found that I had been given the row behind the exit row.
During the flight we were missed for a second drink, and had to get the stewardess back for a top up. The newspapers were two days out of date, offering Friday's news on a Sunday evening.
The flight ended with a hard landing, with the airplane veering to either side as we braked to a halt.
This was not, however, the end of our misadventures. After waiting 30 minutes for my luggage, we found that my partner's luggage had been lost. It turned up late the next evening, after visiting Germany and returning by Lufthansa and taxi.
My other observations are that nothing else has changed. Meals are always some variation on filled bread roll and chocolate, whether it is breakfast or evening meal. The only films shown are Tom and Jerry cartoons with no sound, giving 10 minutes of entertainment on a one and three quarter hour flight.
Overall I was unimpressed in the lack of variety or variation during each flight, other than the entertainment value of mishaps. Perhaps this is why Swiss efficiency appears to have disappeared from the service provided by Swiss Air.
