There is no doubt Sydney is one of the worlds most spectacular cities and a pleasure to live and work there, which I briefly did. But it is very English on the streets and in the workplace and in... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful, scenic, always something going on

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather busy!

Last year I spent a year in Australia which included me living in Sydney for around 7 months on two occasions. I therefore am writing this review on the city from both a visitor and living perceptive. Sydney was first settled in 1788 although it is thought to have been inhabited by the indigenous population for over 30,000 years! Situated in the state of New South Wales on the East coast it is the largest city in Australia with a population of 4.5million including the suburbs. It is often mistaken as the nation's capital and it is easy to see why. Apart from its size it has the icons, the ... more

3 Stars Maybe Tonight? Review with images 26/02/2006
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages It's SYDNEY, y'know the one with the opera house and the bridge?

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's a city that not only sleeps but also stops eating hours before bedtime

From September to December 2005 I was seconded to a suburb of Sydney, Australia which, as secondments go, was a pretty juicy one for a 23 year old to land. As readers of my other pieces will attest to I got out and about in Australia during my time there, but since Sydney was the place I was working 4 days per week, every week, I also got to spend a fair chunk of time in the city. Arriving in Sydney is generally by air on a domestic or international flight though some energetic souls may also drive in having road-tripped it from Melbourne and/or Canberra. The airport is not an especially ... more

5 Stars The beautiful harbour city Review with images 24/01/2009
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Lots to see and do

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be expensive, Very hot in summer

I've lived in Sydney since 2005 and I have to say it's the most wonderful city. There really is something for everyone here.First, there's the obvious Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The Opera House is the most amazing building when you see if for real. I really didn't think that much of it until I moved here and stood outside of it. If there's nothing showing there that you fancy seeing, then I'd recommend one of the tours. They offer 1 hour tours for about $30 that will take you behind the scenes and into a couple fo the theatres. They'll teach you about the building of the Opera House, why ... more

5 Stars Sydney Harbour Bay! Review with images 21/01/2007

Advantages Advantages Awesome place/great photo opportunities!

Disadvantages Disadvantages I was jet lagged when we saw it!

Last Summer I was lucky enough to go on a world rugby tour to Australia and New Zealand, it was an amazing trip and I am going to review each section of the trip, to let you know how fantastic it was! I will try not to do it in a blog style and hopefully tell you what the places were actually like, how good/bad parts of the trip were rather than simply 'how great the trip was'. Then hopefully if you are planning a trip to Australia and New Zealand you might find something in my review that you would like to do or a place which you want to see. I will put up lots of pictures as well so you get ... more

Advantages Advantages So much to do, great atmosphere

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive to get to, not so good if you dont like busy cities

When i went to Australia last year i cant say i really thought much about which places i would like the most or what there was to do - i just wanted to go there!! I went for a small visit of only a month but it was widely spread out as i started in perth and went across to the other side. Eventually i got to Sydney. Not really knowing where to start and only being there for three days i was glad to have been on a escorted tour and therefore was shown and told what there was to do and see. As soon as we arrived we went onto the Captain Cook river cruise down by the harbour. Now being Melbourne ... more
