Sydney is a great city to visit, with lots to see and do that will interest all the family. Children will love the ferries that operate in Sydney harbour that make 'getting there' part of the fun of a good day out. The best views of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen from the ferry from double bay!
The Opera House is an amazing sight, but we found it prety inaccessible with a buggy. nearby there is the Rocks which on Saturday and Sunday is home to a fantastic craft market where you can but all sorts of goodies at great prices.
Eating out is cheap, by UK standards, and there are so many places to choose from - buy a copy of 'Cheap Eats' which lists pretty much every restaurant in Sydney worth going to (not just the cheap ones). we particularly enjoyed Doyle's Fish Restaurant at Watsons Bay, Limoncello in Double Bay, Barzurra in Coogee Bay and Jones the Grocer in Moncur Street and at Bondi Beach.
One of the great things about Sydeny is that all the different neighbourhoods have their own little parade of shops - rather than the anonymous supermarkets we have in the UK - which makes shopping for groceries a much more enjoyable experience. If you are staying on a self catering basis - check out 'Pasta Pantry' (branches throughout Sydney) for their amazing range of pastas and fresh sauces.
Check out Fox Studios for great shops, multiplex cinemas, the 'backlot tour', and the Farmers' market every Wednesday.
In short Sydney really does have something for everyone - even when you visit in the Winter (as we did), a very cosmopolitan city that is small enough to get around easily, but large enough to make you realise that you are in a 'world city'.

Advantages: It's SYDNEY, y'know the one with the opera house and the bridge? Disadvantages: It's a city that not only sleeps but also stops eating hours before bedtime
