I had the opportunity to visit Sydney, Australia in March of 1999. This was the most beautiful city I have ever seen! From the transportation, to the accommodations, to the people, everything was superb.
Sitting right on the harbour, it offers great sunrises, and lovely crisp days. In March, it rains more often than not, however the rain lasting several hours and stopping for the rest of the day.
The transportation system is incredible. Whether by bus, car, or ferry, there is virtually no problems, at least none that I came across. If you have any questions about how to get around or where to go, asking someone on the street does quite well as the people there are very friendly.
For those interested in some tourist highlights, I would recommend the following:
1. The Harbour Bridge Climb: For AU$100, you can view Sydney Harbour from atop the Harbour Bridge. The view is outstanding and a must do. I'm terrified of heights, but felt entirely safe on this outing.
2. Tarranga Zoo: Clearly, one of the best zoo's in the world. Animals are kept in relatively natural settings, a few with enclosures with the Sydney skyline as a backdrop. Oh to be a giraffe.
3. The Rocks: Take a cab or a short hike from Darling Harbour toward this section of town for some quaint shops and restaurants. I would recommend visiting on Saturday or Sunday when the streets are alive with a market sporting vendors selling everything from antique photos of Sydney to home made curry sauces. Check out the Visitors Centre for great information, guidebooks, and some expert advise from the locals.
4. Centre Point Tower (AMP Building): One of Sydney's landmarks, clearly visible on the skyline. For a small fee (about AU$10) visitors have a spectacular 360 degree view of the city. I would recommend visiting early in your trip and always on a clear, sunny day. Take lots of film for the camera too!
5. The Sydney Opera House, famous for its spectacular white sails, is absolutely beautiful. Its largest theatre, the Concert Hall, is a work of art. The ceilings and walls are sculpted with acoustics in mind and look wonderful. Although no pictures are allowed to be taken inside, the place is so unforgettable beautiful that the pictures that you form in your mind will be with you forever. The Opera Theatre, and the main theatre, are one of the 1000 rooms in the Opera House, and are wonderful sights. Sound carries very well there and it is easy to see why so many famous people come to perform here. The Sydney Opera House is a must see part of any trip.
I really enjoyed my trip. I very highly recommend it!
Good Op, maybe one day I might even get there, I'm counting on my wife being a national helping :)

Advantages: It's SYDNEY, y'know the one with the opera house and the bridge? Disadvantages: It's a city that not only sleeps but also stops eating hours before bedtime
